Job summary

Ginkgo Residential LLC seeks a Portfolio Controller to oversee property-level accounting and financial reporting across our growing multifamily portfolio. You will manage the monthly close, prepare property statements, ensure GAAP compliance, and lead a four-person team while partnering with other departments for actionable financial analysis.

Ideal candidates hold a CPA and a Bachelor’s in accounting, with 7–10 years in real estate accounting and strong Excel skills, plus Entrata/Yardi

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and CPA designation required.
  • 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, with strong real estate or multifamily focus.
  • Experience managing a property accounting team and GAAP proficiency.
  • Experience with Entrata and Yardi systems is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close for the multifamily portfolio.
  • Oversee preparation and review of property-level financial statements.
  • Ensure accurate recording of rental revenue, operating expenses, and capital expenditures.
  • Review general ledger activity, reconciliations, accruals and fixed assets.
  • Maintain property books in accordance with GAAP and policy.
  • Establish and monitor accounting policies, procedures and internal controls.
  • Coordinate onboarding/offboarding of properties.
  • Support annual audit and tax return preparation.

Job description

The Portfolio Controller will oversee property-level accounting and financial reporting across the company’s growing multifamily portfolio. This role is responsible for a timely and accurate monthly close, property financial statements, general ledger integrity, accounts payable and receivable oversight, cash management and compliance with internal accounting policies.

The Portfolio Controller reports to the Chief Financial Officer and manages a team of four direct reports. This role will work closely with other departments to provide accurate financial information and meaningful analysis that supports business decisions.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly and annual accounting close process for the multifamily portfolio.
  • Oversee preparation and review of property-level financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements and supporting schedules.
  • Ensure accurate recording of rental revenue, operating expenses, capital expenditures, debt activity and other property-level transactions.
  • Review general ledger activity, account reconciliations, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets and intercompany transactions.
  • Maintain property books in accordance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
  • Establish and monitor accounting policies, procedures and internal controls.
  • Identify and resolve accounting discrepancies and errors in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate accounting activities for property onboarding and offboarding.
  • Support the annual audit and tax return preparation, including preparing or overseeing required schedules and documentation.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited four-year college and CPA designation required.
  • 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including significant experience in real estate or multifamily accounting.
  • Prior experience managing or leading a property accounting team.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and real estate accounting principles.
  • Demonstrated experience with property-level financial statements and the monthly close process.
  • Experience with multifamily property management and accounting systems, including Entrata and Yardi.
  • Strong Excel skills, including experience working with large datasets and financial models.
  • Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet firm deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
