Job summary

The Aerospace Corporation seeks a Portfolio Architect & Enterprise Systems Engineer for the Portfolio Analysis Department in the Enterprise Effects Division. This on-site, Chantilly-based role focuses on portfolio management, digital engineering, and system-of-systems analysis for government clients.

You will lead studies, engage with program offices and customers, deploy tools and models, and advise management on technical issues, with travel 5–10% as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, science, or related technical discipline.
  • Typically, at least 4 years of increasingly responsible experience in systems engineering or related engineering disciplines.
  • Experience in systems engineering, MBSE, and/or digital engineering.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
  • Take initiative, flexibility, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity with MBSE modeling languages such as SysML and tools such as Cameo and SparX EA.
  • Familiarity with architecture frameworks such as DoDAF or UAF.
  • Active TS or Q clearance.
  • Willingness to travel domestically, approx. 5–10%.

Responsibilities

  • Provide enterprise engineering and analytical support to government intelligence community customers in portfolio management, digital engineering, and system-of-systems engineering.
  • Engage directly with Aerospace program office personnel as well as government customers.
  • Support the deployment or implementation of existing tools, models, and frameworks.
  • Identify new capabilities and enhancements that will better support customer programs and architectures.
  • Initiate studies designed to solve complex problems and provide new and innovative technical solutions.
  • Take initiative to inform management of perceived technical problems and recommend courses of action.
  • Utilize MBSE methodologies, modeling languages, and tools.
  • Initiate and lead studies to provide recommendations to the customer.
  • Provide tailored, technical support for customer-specific use cases.
  • Provide ongoing technical consultation and mentoring as needed.

The Aerospace Corporation is hiring a Portfolio Architect & Enterprise Systems Engineer for the Portfolio Analysis Department (PAD) in the Enterprise Effects Division (EED). This is an onsite opportunity in Chantilly, Virginia.

The Enterprise Effects Division (EED) drives integration of Aerospace’s strategic capabilities across the national space enterprise. The division leverages a broad array of engineering disciplines against a wide-ranging and dynamic portfolio of programs, customers, and national challenges. EED spans the capability lifecycle from concept and architecture design to performance assessment to application of space and space-enabled capabilities.

As part of the Enterprise Design Subdivision (EDS), the Portfolio Analysis Department (PAD) drives responsive and comprehensive trades in customer portfolios. Working closely with corporate program offices, PAD delivers portfolio decision insights that expand options for senior leaders and accelerates delivery of end effects. PAD integrates expertise, system analysis and design capabilities from across the corporation. We are looking for an experienced Portfolio Architect & Enterprise Systems Engineer to support a variety of east coast government customers.

Work Model

This position will be required to work full-time on-site at Aerospace’s Chantilly, VA location.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Provide enterprise engineering and analytical support to government intelligence community customers in portfolio management, digital engineering, and system-of-systems engineering
  • Engage directly with Aerospace program office personnel as well as government customers
  • Support the deployment or implementation of existing tools, models, and frameworks
  • Identify new capabilities and enhancements that will better support the customer programs and architectures
  • Initiate studies designed to solve complex problems and provide new and innovative technical solutions
  • Take initiative to inform management of perceived technical problems and recommend courses of action
  • Utilize Aerospace resources, teams, and expertise on the effective use of MBSE methodologies, modeling languages, and tools
  • Initiate and lead studies designed to solve technical problems to provide recommendations to the customer
  • Leverage Aerospace’s technical backplane to provide tailored, technical support and innovative solutions for customer-specific use cases
  • Provide ongoing technical consultation and advice to management, customers, and contractors
  • Provide mentoring and oversight to early career staff, as necessary
  • Occasional travel may be required
What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements for the Senior Member of the Technical Staff

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, science, or other related technical discipline
  • Typically, at least 4 years of increasingly responsible experience in systems engineering or related engineering disciplines
  • Experience in systems engineering, systems engineering, model-based systems engineering, and/or digital engineering
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
  • Take initiative, have flexibility, and be able to work in a fast‑paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and well adept at oral and written communication
  • Familiarity with MBSE modeling languages such as System Modeling Language (SysML) and tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler and SparX Enterprise Architecture
  • Familiarity with architecture frameworks such as the Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) or the Unified Architecture Framework (UAF)
  • Active TS security clearance or Q security clearance
  • Available and willing to travel domestically, approx. 5‑10%
How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Advanced degree in engineering, mathematics, science, or other related technical discipline
  • Demonstrated leadership of broad multidisciplinary teams conducting technical evaluations of complex systems; cost, schedule and risk analysis; portfolio-level trade studies; and requirements development
  • Experience with and/or working knowledge of the Aerospace Engineering and Technology Group (ETG) span of technical capabilities and organizational construct
  • Experience with Intelligence Community systems engineering and programmatic processes, methods, tools, and personnel
  • Experience briefing senior Government leaders (General Officer and/or SES/SIS)
