About Resonant Capital Advisors

Resonant Capital Advisors is a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) dedicated to disciplined portfolio management, rigorous research, and long-term client outcomes. Our investment process combines strategic asset allocation, active manager selection, and ongoing portfolio oversight to deliver thoughtfully constructed portfolios for our clients.

Portfolio Administrator & Research Analyst

This role provides direct exposure to portfolio management, asset allocation, and investment research, making it an ideal opportunity for early-career professionals pursuing a long-term career in investment management or the CFA® designation.

Position Overview

The Portfolio Administrator & Research Analyst supports the firm’s portfolio management and investment research functions. Working closely with the Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio Management Team, successful candidates will assist with portfolio implementation, investment monitoring, and research analysis that supports portfolio decisions.

This role combines portfolio operations, trading support, and investment analysis, providing a comprehensive foundation in the investment management process.

Successful candidates will demonstrate strong analytical ability, intellectual curiosity, and a desire to build a career in portfolio management or investment research.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support portfolio managers in establishing and maintaining client accounts on third‑party trading and portfolio management platforms.
  • Assist with portfolio rebalancing, cash management, and routine trading activities associated with client inflows, outflows, and model updates.
  • Maintain and update model portfolio allocations, benchmarks, and targets across custodial and portfolio management systems.
  • Monitor client portfolios for allocation drift and assist in implementing portfolio adjustments.
  • Provide trade recommendations and analysis, subject to portfolio manager approval.
  • Coordinate with Client Service and Investment Operations teams to ensure accurate implementation of portfolio changes.
  • Assist the CIO in ensuring compliance with investment policies, regulatory standards, and trading procedures.
  • Contribute to portfolio reporting and investment commentary for internal and client‑facing materials.
  • Develop proficiency with portfolio management, reporting, and trading systems used by the firm.
Investment Research & Analysis
  • Monitor macro‑economic trends, market developments, and key investment indicators affecting portfolio positioning.
  • Conduct ongoing monitoring and analysis of existing portfolio holdings and investment strategies.
  • Support investment due diligence for new investment managers, funds, and strategies.
  • Assist in evaluating potential investment opportunities by analyzing risk characteristics, return potential, and portfolio fit.
  • Conduct screening and comparative analysis across asset classes and investment vehicles.
  • Monitor non‑model securities held in client portfolios.
  • Prepare research summaries and investment insights to support internal investment committee discussions.
Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business, or a related discipline
Experience
  • 1–3 years of experience in investment research, portfolio management support, financial analysis, or asset management.
  • Experience working with a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA), asset manager, family office, or institutional investment firm is preferable.
  • Exposure to portfolio management systems, trading platforms, or investment research tools (such as FactSet) is highly beneficial and preferred.
Professional Development
  • CFA® Program candidate or strong interest in pursuing the CFA® designation preferred.
  • Strong understanding of financial markets, asset classes, and portfolio construction principles.
  • General familiarity with owning or analyzing individual stocks and investment strategies is preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong PowerPoint presentation skills.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and synthesize investment insights.
  • Strong attention to detail with an elevated level of analytical rigor.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced investment environment.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work across teams.
  • Demonstrates intellectual curiosity and a passion for financial markets.
What We Offer
  • Direct mentorship and exposure to senior investment professionals.
  • Participation in investment research and portfolio management process.
  • Opportunity to build a solid foundation in portfolio construction, asset allocation, and manager research.
  • Support for professional development, including the CFA® program.
  • Collaborative and intellectually engaging investment environment.
  • Opportunity to gain experience in advanced research or portfolio management roles.
Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is an analytically minded professional who wants to build a career in investment management or portfolio research. They are intellectually curious, meticulous, and motivated to deepen their understanding of financial markets and portfolio construction.

Candidates pursuing or planning to pursue the CFA® designation will find this role particularly valuable due to the broad exposure to portfolio management and investment research.

Career Progression & Future Opportunities

This role is designed to evolve alongside the candidate’s professional growth and the firm’s expansion. For high‑performing individuals who successfully pass appropriate qualification exams (such as the Series 65), there is significant potential for:

  • Client Engagement – Transitioning into face‑to‑face work with clients, supporting senior advisors in relationship management and portfolio reviews.
  • Direct Portfolio Management – Taking a more hands‑on role in the active analysis and security selection for the firm’s internally managed equity SMAs and fixed‑income portfolios.
