POP Development, the housing development arm of Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens, is one of the largest providers of affordable housing in Brooklyn & Queens. It transforms vacant lands and buildings into affordable housing through new construction and financial repositioning, providing critical housing and supportive services to vulnerable populations. To date, POP Development has transformed 4,330 units for low-income seniors, families, and formerly homeless individuals, ensuring high-quality, sustainable housing that meets current needs.

STATEMENT OF THE JOB

The Porter/Maintenance Worker plays a vital role in maintaining safe, affordable housing for tenants in properties managed by POP Management. Responsibilities include maintaining a regular cleaning schedule, preparing tenant apartments for occupancy, and ensuring safety standards are met. The worker collaborates with on-site staff, vendors, contractors, and monitors mechanical systems.

  • Work with the Superintendent to ensure proper property maintenance.
  • Complete routine repairs and document via Service Request Orders.
  • Assist with inspections and monitor mechanical systems.
  • Keep indoor and outdoor common areas clean and safe.
  • Follow a cleaning schedule for floors, doors, windows, elevators, lobby, offices, laundry, restrooms, and community spaces.
  • Prepare tenant apartments, including cleaning, painting, and floor work.
  • Remove snow and ice promptly and efficiently.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or GED preferred; may be waived with 1 year of experience.
  • Experience with equipment such as vacuum cleaners, waxers, buffers, snow blowers, leaf blowers, lawn mowers, and garbage compactors.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English; bilingual skills (Spanish, Korean, Chinese, Russian) preferred.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds frequently.
