Job summary

Red Rabbit in Washington, DC is hiring Porters to join a 4-6 person kitchen team that helps exceed DOH standards and keeps equipment in working order for daily use.

Responsibilities include reading production sheets, cooking scratch-made dishes, and serving on a tight schedule while maintaining a clean, safe kitchen.

Typical hours are 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with compensation of $18.50–$19.00 per hour.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of work in a restaurant, hotel or commissary kitchen.
• Basic knowledge of kitchen equipment, safety and sanitation regulations.
• High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Able to bend, stoop, lift up to 50 pounds.
• Stand for long periods and move around the kitchen.
• Reliable, team player in a fast-paced environment.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

• Properly clean all kitchen areas to exceeding DOH standards across surfaces and equipment.
• Remove trash, cardboard and compost promptly to keep production areas clean.
• Proactively set up the kitchen for daily meal production.

Porter (Multiple Positions Available!)

About the Role

Porters work on a team of 4-6 people who are responsible for helping to ensure that Red Rabbit’s kitchen exceeds Department of Health standards and that all equipment is in working order for the kitchen to use each day.

The ideal candidate has experience in a high-volume kitchen, is reliable, and has a "can-do" attitude. Key responsibilities include understanding production sheets, cooking scratch-made dishes, serving food on a tight schedule, and ensuring the kitchen consistently exceeds DOH standards.

Must not obligation
This is an in-school position.

Critical Functions

• Properly clean all areas of the kitchen to ensure that Red Rabbit is exceeding DOH standards. This includes countertops, cooking equipment, walk-in refrigerators, floors, hand sinks, dishes and storage areas.
• Remove trash, cardboard, and compost in a timely manner making sure the kitchen is clean and free from debris for food preparation
• Proactively work to ensure the kitchen team is set-up for meal production each day

Skills and Abilities

• 1+ years of work experience in a restaurant, hotel or commissary kitchen
• Basic knowledge of kitchen equipment and procedures, safety and sanitation regulations
• High School Graduate or equivalent relevant preferred
• Must be able to bend, stoop, lift, and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time and move from area to area in the kitchen
• Must be reliable, function well within a team, and work calmly and efficiently in a fast moving environment.
• Must operate proactively and with a sense of urgency and have attention to detail
• Must have a great attitude who contributes to a positive working environment
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
