Position: Custodian/Janitor

Overview

Williamsburg Charter High School (WCHS) is a high-performing, public charter high school located in Brooklyn, New York. Established in August 2004, it was the first Chancellor-authorized charter high school in NYC. WCHS serves approximately 944 students in grades 9-12, offering a rigorous liberal arts education aimed at developing critical thinking, communication, and research skills among students from diverse backgrounds, including English Language Learners and students with Special Education needs.

This role involves maintaining cleanliness and sanitation across the school facilities to ensure a safe and healthy environment for students and staff.

Responsibilities

1. Clean and disinfect restrooms, sinks, countertops, toilets, mirrors, and floors. Replenish bathroom supplies. Polish fixtures and fittings.

2. Sweep, mop, vacuum, and scrub floors, including staircases. Perform waxing and polishing as needed.

3. Clean and disinfect surfaces such as tables, chairs, refrigerators, and break room areas. Replenish supplies.

4. Break down and set up cafeteria furniture for daily use and cleaning.

5. Dust furniture, equipment, window ledges, and shelving.

6. Empty wastebaskets and recyclables; transport to disposal area.

7. Clean rugs, carpets, and upholstered furniture using appropriate vacuum cleaners.

8. Wash walls, woodwork, windows, door panels, and sills.

9. Perform snow removal and de-icing during winter months.

10. Ensure all windows are closed and locked.

11. Follow all written and verbal instructions and report maintenance needs.

12. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Expectations

• Arrive on time daily; work extra hours when required.

• Maintain high standards of cleanliness, accuracy, and thoroughness.

• Work flexibility, including weekends and some weekdays.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary: $17.00/hour with over 10 weeks of paid time off.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay Range: $16.50 - $17.00 per hour
