Job summary

Selfhelp is seeking a Property Maintenance Assistant in the United States to maintain clean, safe common areas under the supervision of the Superintendent. You will perform cleaning tasks, assist with exterior maintenance, and prepare apartments for turnover to ensure a welcoming living environment.

Responsibilities include floor care, window/fixture cleaning, debris removal, and reporting health or safety concerns. You will support the Superintendent with daily tasks and other duties as needed.

Responsibilities

• Maintaining a clean and groomed appearance in all common areas, including bathrooms, community rooms, and hallways.
• Performing cleaning tasks such as sweeping, vacuuming, shampooing rugs, stripping, washing, and waxing floors; cleaning glass surfaces and fixtures.
• Assisting with exterior maintenance, including shoveling and sanding walkways and stairs, sweeping, and lawn care beyond contractual obligations.
• Preparing apartments for turnover in accordance with established guidelines.
• Cleaning and maintaining community buildings, laundry rooms, office spaces, maintenance shops, and surrounding grounds.
• Daily collection and disposal of debris throughout the property.
• Cleaning parking lots and dumpster areas to ensure a neat appearance.
• Assisting the Superintendent with basic maintenance repairs.
• Promptly reporting any health, safety, or environmental concerns to management.
• Assisting the Superintendent with all other duties, as requested.

Salary Range

$18 - $22 per hour commensurate with experience

Job Competencies & Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) minimum; and at least one year related experience
• Excellent verbal and written skills
• Excellent customer service skills
• Able to multi-task and work independently with a great attention to detail

Working Conditions/Physical Demand

• May occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• Occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock and exposure to pathogens.
• Must be able to travel locally by public or private transportation to make home visits. Valid driver’s license, car registration and insurance as applicable.
