Approved Fire Protection & Security (AFPS) seeks a full-time Portables Technician to test, inspect, service, and install portable extinguishers and life-safety gear. The role blends shop work with field duties, and involves demonstrations and customer training.

Position Overview

AFPS is looking for a full-time, experienced Portables Technician to test, inspect, clean, service, and install portable fire extinguishers and other life safety equipment. This role works in the shop, performs fire demonstrations, and goes out for field work. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined and able to diagnose and repair reported problems.

Requirements

Portable Technician

• Inspect, test, service, recharge, and install portable fire extinguishers in accordance with NFPA standards and applicable fire codes, including water, ABC dry chemical, CO2, BC dry chemical, and wet chemical extinguishers.
• Inspect and repair emergency and exit lighting systems.
• Conduct customer fire extinguisher training and demonstrations.

Documentation & Shop Support

• Complete inspection and service documentation accurately and promptly.
• Maintain service vehicle inventory, tools, and required paperwork.
• Assist with shop operations, receiving, inventory, and warehouse organization.

Vehicle & Site Compliance

• Maintain company vehicles and perform daily pre-trip inspections.
• Follow customer site safety and access requirements.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry between 50 to 100 pounds regularly.
• Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and climb ladders throughout the workday.
• Comfortable working in warehouse, commercial, and industrial environments.
• Ability to safely operate company vehicles and equipment.

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license and excellent driving record.
• Must pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen.
• Must be willing to travel throughout NY & PA as required to project and field locations.
• Prior experience in the fire protection industry, primarily with portable fire extinguishers, preferred.
• Current possession of, or willingness to obtain, a DOT HAZMAT endorsement within a specified timeframe after hire.
• Must be competent with all work-related power tools.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; must be able to read and write in English.
• Excellent customer service skills and ability to work well in a team environment.
• Must be able to work Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM.
