Job summary

Pye-Barker Fire & Safety in Saint Paul, MN is seeking a dedicated Service Technician to oversee the operation and maintenance of portable fire extinguishers. You will inspect, test, and service extinguishers in compliance with NFPA standards and local codes, and prepare accurate inspection reports.

This role requires the ability to work independently or lead small teams, with a clean driving record and willingness to travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of NFPA standards preferred.
• Experience with fire extinguishers preferred.
• High school education or equivalent preferred.
• Troubleshooting skills.
• Good interpersonal skills; able to work in a team or independently.
• Clean driving record and reliable transportation to/from office or job site.
• Scheduling flexibility including evenings, weekends, and occasional out-of-town assignments.

Responsibilities

• Install or service fire extinguishers in commercial and residential buildings.
• Test and repair extinguishers already in place.
• Perform inspections to ensure extinguishers are installed according to code.
• Complete detailed inspection reports and document issues.
• Report results of work completed in a timely manner.
• Maintain company equipment and truck; repair requests as needed.
• Operate warehouse equipment and vehicles safely for loading/unloading.
• Travel as needed and respond to emergency service calls.

This position is responsible for overseeing the proper operation and maintenance of portable devices. Responsibilities include inspecting, testing and performing fire extinguisher checks in accordance to fire code; identifying system deficiencies and preparing accurate and timely inspection reports.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Requires the ability to act in a lead capacity and manage teams or groups of individuals on projects.
• Install or service fire extinguishers in commercial and residential buildings
• Test and repair fire extinguishers already in place
• Perform inspections to ensure fire extinguishers are installed according to code
• Complete detailed inspection reports, documenting any issues
• Report results of work completed in an accurate and timely manner
• Protect and maintain company equipment.
• Inspect and maintain the truck and all related equipment, putting in repair requests as necessary to maintain safe operation.
• Operate warehouse equipment, including vehicles, in a way that facilitates the loading and unloading of the truck while observing all safety regulations and manufacturer's safety instructions for that equipment.
• Work in a safe manner as outlined by company safety procedures including driver safety and personal protective equipment.
• Respond to emergency service calls
• Maintain a clean and safe workspace
• Perform other duties assigned by management.

Education/Qualification

• Knowledge of NFPA standards is preferred
• Experience with fire extinguishers is preferred
• A high school education or equivalent preferred
• Troubleshooting skills.
• Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to work in a team environment as well as work independently.
• Must have a clean driving record and reliable transportation to/from the office or job site.
• Must be flexible with scheduling requirements that occasionally will require evening, weekend and/or out-of-town assignments.

• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Ability to travel as needed.

Physical Requirements

• While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and is occasionally required to lift and/or move heavy objects.
• The work also requires the following physical abilities in order to perform the essential job functions: balancing, climbing, grasping, hearing, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, repetitive motion, speaking, talking, and visual acuity.

Compensation

• $23/hr - $29/hr (depending on experience)
