A leading company in New Orleans is seeking a Port Facility Maintenance Master Mechanic for its Dredge department. The role involves maintaining and repairing various systems necessary for dredging operations, emphasizing safety and technical competency. Candidates should possess a valid Louisiana driver's license and TWIC card, along with experience in mechanical and electrical systems.

This position is in the Dredge department of the Port of New Orleans Maintenance Division and reports directly to the Dredge Chief Engineer. It serves as a Port Facility Maintenance Master Mechanic in facilitating Dredging operations and maintenance as part of the Dredge department, and participates in the required PORT training program and obtains additional training in order to facilitate the efficient performance duties and/or required tasks. This is a safety sensitive position that requires random drug screening throughout the year.
The incumbent is required to possess and maintain a valid Louisiana Driver’s License, Class E and be knowledgeable and capable of the safe operation of various types of equipment requires to fulfill the needs of the position and the PORT. The incumbent is required to have knowledge of the use of a VHF radio, which requires proper radio etiquette. The incumbent shall utilize a telephone, cellphone, two-way communication device, computer and email to facilitate communications if required. The incumbent must be able to perform duties many times without direct supervision and be knowledgeable enough to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise.
Job Duties:
45% MECHANICAL
Repairs engines, transmissions, pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Maintains all marine generators. Performs diagnostic tests to locate malfunctions of the various systems on the dredge and determines necessary repairs. Performs routine maintenance, such as oil changes on dredge engines. Troubleshoots air condition systems up to 5 tons.
45% ELECTRICAL
Assists in troubleshooting of PLC (programmable logic controller) systems. Makes inspections of electrical equipment including all marine electronic components and uses standard tools such as voltmeter, amp meter and related equipment. Installs different types of voltage transformers and adjusts voltage as necessary. Troubleshoots shorts and open circuits in wiring, motors and generators. Troubleshoots and maintains AC drive and motors up to 1000 HP. Basic knowledge of 4-20 milliamp instrumentation systems.
10% OTHER DUTIES, INCLUDING EMERGENCY SUPPORT
Orders parts and schedules maintenance without impacting production. The incumbent is required to perform a variety of tasks and assignments, as directed by the Supervisor, necessary to fulfill the mission of the Dredge Department and/or Port Maintenance Division.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of the following: Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.

$24.10/hr. to $33.74/hr.
