Job summary

Genesis Marine in Houston seeks an experienced management professional to ensure vessels are crewed, operated and maintained in line with regulatory standards and customer expectations. You will oversee safety systems and regulatory training across the fleet, while guiding budgets and incident investigations.

In this role you will supervise both licensed and unlicensed personnel, manage crew development, coordinate tugs and pilots, and ensure navigational standards are met.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years’ experience in the maritime industry.
• Minimum 5 years as a Captain.
• Must live in or within 50 miles of Houston area.
• Supervisory skills and crew leadership required.
• Master of Towing Vessels certification.
• TWIC Card and Personal Radio License required.
• Radar Observer certification.
• QI Training and incident investigation capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Ensure vessels are crewed, operated and maintained per regulations.
• Enforce Safety Management System for safe fleet operation.
• Ensure regulatory training compliance for vessel personnel.
• Assist in development and adherence of operational budgets.
• Investigate vessel damage, spills, and injuries.
• Complete documentation accurately and timely.
• Review and verify orders before transit and loading.
• Review load plans as needed and coordinate with teams.
• Supervise licensed and unlicensed crew development.
• Oversee navigational standards and vessel inspections.
• Coordinate tugs, pilots and crew care as necessary.
• Provide technical expertise for field operations.

Job description

This is a management position responsible to ensure vessels are crewed, operated and maintained (as permitted by vessel crew) in accordance with regulatory requirements, company standards, and customer expectations.

Key Duties:

• May involve travel to multiple locations with extended stays away from the homeport.
• Enforce Genesis Marine’s Safety Management System for the operation of a safe and environmentally sound fleet.
• Ensure all vessel personnel comply with regulatory training requirements.
• Assist in the development and adherence of the operational budgets.
• Investigate vessel damage, product spills, and personal injuries.
• Ensure all proper documentation is completed accurately.
• Review orders that are dispatched for accuracy prior to transit and loading.
• Review load plans as needed.
• Supervise licensed and unlicensed personnel and crew management development.
• Responsible for Navigational Standards.
• Inspect vessels to ensure in good working condition.
• Arranges for coordination of assist tugs, pilots and crew care as necessary.
• Provide technical expertise for specialized jobs in the field.
• Port Captains will be assigned no more than 10 vessels.
