Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of field experience maintaining pool and spa equipment, HVAC, electrical/mechanical, plumbing.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in varying temperatures and hours.
  • Must obtain Certified Pool Operators Certification within 90 days.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance of equipment and document all work performed.
  • Diagnose and repair pool and spa equipment (motors, starters, breakers, pumps, steam generators, boilers, plumbing fixtures).
  • Comply with Engineering Department policies and procedures.
  • Respond to guest calls regarding maintenance in a professional and timely manner.
  • Respond to emergencies (evacuation, fire, power failure, flood, hurricane).
  • Clean shops and mechanical areas; manage inventory of parts and supplies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

This role is critical to maintaining the luxury standard and reputation of The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa while upholding the highest levels of discretion and professionalism.

Job Summary

Diagnose and provide service and repairs to pool and spa equipment including electrical, plumbing, steam, gas, fire & safety and water chemistry. Respond to calls and problems in an efficient, courteous and professional manner to achieve maximum customer satisfaction while complying with all aspects of the Engineering Department Standards and Policies. This role is critical to maintaining the luxury standard and reputation of The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa while upholding the highest levels of discretion and professionalism.

Essential Job Functions

  • Perform assigned preventive maintenance of equipment and accurately document all work performed.
  • Diagnose and perform repairs of assigned equipment including (but not limited to) motors, starters, breakers, pumps, steam generators, boilers, plumbing fixtures, and associated pool and spa equipment throughout the entire campus.
  • Comply with all Houstonian Hotel Club and Spa / Engineering Department policies and procedures.
  • Respond to guest calls regarding maintenance of pool and spa related equipment in all areas of the campus in an effective, professional, and timely manner.
  • Respond as required to all emergency conditions such as evacuation, fire, power failure, flood, hurricane, etc.
  • Clean all shops and Engineering Mechanical areas, order and maintain proper inventory levels of parts and supplies to ensure a well-organized department and Campus.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge And Skills

  • High school education, GED, or equivalent experience.
  • Must have at least 2 to 4 years of field experience maintaining one or more of the following types of equipment: Pool and Spa Equipment, HVAC, Electrical/Mechanical, Plumbing, Commercial Kitchen, Commercial Laundry and Refrigeration.
  • This position requires extended hours in an outdoor environment. Employees are responsible to take appropriate safety precautions to protect themselves from the elements.
  • Must exhibit self-control and patience to ensure a positive and efficient workspace.
  • Hours required: Scheduled days and hours vary based on departmental needs.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

  • Must obtain Certified Pool Operators Certification within 90 days of employment.

Physical Job Requirements

Must be able to meet the following minimum physical requirements for at least an eight-hour shift:

  • Physical Stamina: Frequent standing, walking, climbing of ladders and stairs, kneeling, reaching overhead, lifting and carrying various objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Must be able to work safely and effectively in outdoor temperatures. Summer temperatures outside can get above 95 degrees Fahrenheit for 5 months of year. For 2 months of year, low temperatures can get below 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Must be able to swim.
  • Driving Ability: Occasional driving is required. Must possess a valid Texas Drivers License and maintain a good driving record in compliance with company policy. Must be able to safely operate a company vehicle equipped with a lift gate and/or a standard transmission.
  • Hearing / Speech: Must be able to effectively engage in one-on-one communication with guests, members, and customers and use a 2-way radio to communicate clearly and accurately with co-workers.
  • Vision: Must be able to accurately read instructions, data plates, equipment serial numbers, and work orders. Must be able to work with computers, read gauges and charts, and perform maintenance work using flashlights and under varied lighting conditions. Must be capable of effectively performing cosmetic and decorative work in guest rooms and public areas.
  • Literacy: Must be able to produce, read and understand reports, including security, incident and police reports. Must be able to analyze and process written information from a variety of sources and effectively communicate content of reports.
  • Chemicals/Agents: Must be able to work safely with chemicals according to SDS sheets and all applicable laws, codes and regulatory requirements.
