Job summary

The City of Pasadena is seeking a skilled Pool Maintenance Technician to service city pools and splash pads. You will perform cleaning, balance water chemistry to meet safety codes, and operate/repair filtration and chemical systems.

The role requires multi-site maintenance, annual training, and on-call readiness for emergencies. You will also coordinate deliveries with vendors, supervise seasonal staff, and ensure facilities meet regulatory standards while maintaining equipment and safety

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Valid Texas Class C Driver's License.
• CPR/AED and First Aid certifications within six months.
• Must obtain pool operation certificate (CPO/AFO or equivalent) within six months.
• Minimum 3 years' experience in swimming pool maintenance or equivalent training.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance tasks on city pools and splash pads, including cleaning and vacuuming.
• Operate, repair, maintain, and clean pool equipment and water treatment systems.
• Test and balance water chemistry per state codes; adjust chemicals as needed.
• Inspect facilities, backwash filters, and monitor gauges/flow meters.
• Assist with preventive maintenance programs and coordinate with vendors.
• Train seasonal staff and respond to on-call or emergency situations as required.
• Ensure compliance with codes and safety regulations; manage routine repairs to tiles, valves, and pumps.

Job description

Performs a variety of general, technical and specialized maintenance tasks on all City pools and splash pads. Pool cleaning, vacuuming, brushing and skimming. Operates repairs, maintains and cleans mechanical equipment for pool operation including water filtration and chemical purification systems, with the ability to service and calibrate erosion feeders. Operate, repair, maintain and clean equipment for all splash pad. Assist in determining and implementing preventive maintenance programs for pool and splash pad operation. Ensures pool equipment meets codes specifications. Conduct walk-through inspections of pool and splash pad facilities and takes necessary corrective action. Regulates water levels; tests water chemistry and maintains chemically balanced water chemistry per state codes. Adjusts chemical balance as needed by adding chemicals to the pool/splash pad water, calculating the proper amounts to be added to the water for proper balancing and to meet standards for oxidation and sanitation. Checks gauges, flow meters and other equipment and when necessary backwash filters. Assist with the maintenance of pool/splash pad facilities including pumps, filters and mechanical, construction and electrical maintenance. Must be able to diagnose and repair/replace pool motors, pumps, mechanical seals, impellers, valves and gaskets, Vac Alerts, gauges, flow meters, pool light bulbs and heaters and VFD's. Make repairs on facilities when needed including but not limited to tiles, line hoses, valves, benches and other surfaces around the pool/splash pad. Responsible for mowing and trimming grass area in the pool enclosures. Train seasonal hires when necessary. Coordinate deliveries with outside vendors and pick up purchased equipment. Works the assigned schedule and complies with City timekeeping and attendance policy. Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements

High School diploma or GED; or technical diploma in mechanical, technical, or construction. Valid Texas Class C Driver's License with good driving record. Obtain certification in CPR/AED, First aid and Blood Borne Pathogens within the six months of employment. Must be available to respond to "on call" and emergency situations. Must obtain certificate of pool operation (CPO or AFO or equivalent) within six months of employment. PREFERRED: Preferred a certificate of pool operation (CPO, AFO or equivalent). Must obtain a Hazard Communication Act certificate within six months of employment, must meet any local, state and/ or federal requirements in handling chemicals, safety, hazardous chemical response, pool operation, water safety, water chemistry, etc. Minimum of 3 years' experience in swimming pool maintenance or equivalent training
