Job summary

Tampa General Hospital is seeking a Pool Surgical Technician 1 for our Brooksville site. You will support surgical and endoscopy procedures, manage surgical instruments, and ensure sterility and readiness of the sterile field.

With a required 5 years of progressive surgical tech experience and a formal surgical tech or LPN program, you will also train new OR scrub techs and act as a resource across multiple surgical specialties at the facility.

Qualifications

• Technical program in Surgical Technology or an LPN program completed.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• 5 years of progressive surgical tech experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist with surgical and endoscopy procedures and prepare supplies and equipment.
• Clean, restock and process the surgical suite, instruments and equipment.
• Identify and report situations needing intervention to the RN or Clinician.
• Serve as clinical preceptor for OR scrub tech and OR technician students; support five specialty areas.

Description

Under general supervision of medical and nursing staff, following policies, procedures and professional guidelines, assists with surgical and endoscopy procedures, provides, assembles and cares for surgical supplies, instruments and equipment before, during and after procedures. Assists with cleaning, restocking and processing of the surgical suite, instruments and equipment as needed. Identifies and reports situations requiring intervention to the RN or Clinician. Serves as a clinical preceptor for new OR scrub tech and OR technician students and serves as a resource person in at least five surgical specialty areas. Responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values of Tampa General Hospital.

Qualifications

Education

• Technical Program Surgical Technologist or Technical Program Licensed Practical Nurse Program

Certification

Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Red Cross or American Heart Association

Certified Surgical Technologists through National Board of Surgical Technology or Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or

Certified Surgical Technologists through Association of Surgical Technologist (AST) or

Certified Surgical Technologists through National Certified Surgical Technician (NCST)
