Job summary

Canton City School District Natatorium in Canton, Ohio is seeking a Part-Time Pool Supervisor or Lifeguard to help maintain a safe, welcoming pool environment for students and the community.

You will enforce rules, monitor swimmers, respond to emergencies, and assist with event transitions while coordinating with staff.

This role requires flexibility to work days as needed, weekends, and evenings, with compensation at $12–$14 per hour.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 15 years old.
• Must hold a current lifeguarding certification recognized by Ohio regulations (ARC/YMCA/Ellis & Associates or equivalent).
• Must pass BCII and FBI background checks (if 18+).

Responsibilities

• Maintain safety and security of the pool and its patrons at all times.
• Explain and enforce rules in a courteous, professional, and firm manner.
• Respond to emergencies immediately and complete required paperwork as needed.
• Create a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes swimmer safety and engagement.
• Assist with pool configuration changes and event transitions.
• Work with a diverse population including children.
• Weekend/evening/summer work as required.

Job Description

Position: Pool Supervisor or Lifeguard

Reports To: Director of Sports Facilities

Employment Status: Part Time - Days and Hours as Needed

Description: Part time position with flexible hours. Position maintains safety and security of the pool and its patrons at all times

Essential Functions

• Maintain safety and security of the pool and its patrons at all times
• Rules are explained and enforced in a courteous, professional, and firm manner
• Maintain effective, positive relationships with members, participants and other staff
• Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately. Completes corresponding paperwork as needed
• Remains alert while sitting, standing, or walking
• Be prepared to enter the water at any time while on duty
• Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes swimmer safety and engagement in accordance with policies and procedures
• Assists with pool configuration changes and event transitions
• Ability to work with a diverse population including children
• Comfort in and around the water
• Perform other duties and tasks as assigned

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• Serve as a role model for students
• Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor
• Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner

Qualifications

• Must be 15 years of age or older
• Must have current lifeguarding certification such as American Red Cross, YMCa, Ellis & Associates or any other course recognized by the Ohio Administrative Code
• Must successfully pass both BCII and FBI background checks (if 18 years of age or older)

Additional Working Conditions

• Occasional interaction among unruly children
• Occasional exposure to blood bodily fluids and tissue
• Frequent requirements to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, kneel, climb, and stoop
• Weekend/evening/summer work
• Requirement to lift and/or carry up to a maximum of 50 pounds, and push/pull up to a maximum of 100 pounds, various supplies and/or equipment
