Job description

Job Summary

The Respiratory Therapist performs designated respiratory care and pulmonary diagnostic procedures under the supervision of a Respiratory Care Coordinator or designee, following protocols established by the department and hospital. The role involves the treatment, management, control, diagnostic evaluation, and care of patients with cardiopulmonary deficiencies and abnormalities. Services include, but are not limited to:

  1. Therapeutic and diagnostic procedures using medical gases, administration apparatus, environmental control systems, humidification, and aerosols.
  2. Administration of drugs and medications to the cardiopulmonary system.
  3. Ventilatory support, including maintenance and management of life support systems.
  4. Bronchopulmonary drainage and breathing exercises.
  5. Pulmonary rehabilitation.
  6. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  7. Maintenance of natural and artificial airways.

These procedures are performed in both critical and non-critical care areas, on patients of all ages, aligning with Tampa General Hospital's mission, vision, and values.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of a 2-year Respiratory Care Program and certification as CRT-RE, CRT-MRE, or RRT, with NBRC requirements for RRT completed.
  • Licensed as RRT in Florida with active credentials.
  • Successful completion of initial orientation and a progressive orientation period or one year of hospital experience.
  • CRT candidates must have three years of progressive hospital experience.
