Job summary

Tampa General Hospital is seeking a Pool Medical Laboratory Scientist III to perform a broad range of laboratory procedures across licensure specialties. The role requires precise QC, specimen assessment, and timely reporting under FL licensure rules.

The candidate must hold relevant degrees, a Florida (or compact) license, and ASCP or AMT certification, with competency across five key specialties.

Qualifications

Associate's Degree in Medical Technology or Bachelor's Degree in Biology or Chemistry.
Florida license (or Compact State license) to practice as Medical Laboratory Technologist.
ASCP or AMT certification is required.
Licensed in all five specialties: Microbiology, Serology, Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Immunohematology.

Responsibilities

Perform all approved laboratory procedures in assigned licensure specialties.
Demonstrate ability to work independently in all FL-licensed areas.
Perform quality control for all tests, evaluate results, and take corrective action as needed.
Assess specimen integrity for appropriateness of ordered tests (QNS, hemolysis, clotting).
Ensure results correlate with age-specific criteria for geriatrics, adults, pediatrics, and neonates.
Repeat and report panic/critical results within 5 minutes to a licensed caregiver.
Perform calibrations and maintenance as required by instruments, CLIA, and TJC.
Complete proficiency testing samples within the required timeframe.
Demonstrate competency in using LIS and HIS systems.
