Position Overview

Supervises pool staff, assigns staff workload and duties, manages and records financial information and maintenance schedules, meets the needs of pool patrons, and maintains a clean work environment. Performs other duties as assigned. Must be reliable, dependable, and trustworthy. Ensures the safety of patrons visiting the pool.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

(All duties listed may not be included in any one position nor does the list include all tasks found in a position of this class.)

  • The pool manager will supervise and manage the pool staff consisting of lifeguards and swim lesson instructors and serve as the pool's office supervisor.
  • The pool manager will create and implement work hour schedules and duties.
  • The manager will be responsible for testing and evaluating pool conditions through the use of a pool testing kit and making sound judgments regarding the introduction of foreign substances into the pool water.
  • The manager will supervise the removal of any foreign substance, implement the appropriate cleaning regime, and close the pool for a regulated amount of time.
  • Lead lifeguard training to ensure proper implementation of the facility's emergency action plan.
  • Review lifeguard training skills with guards as required. With the aquatic director, lead staff meetings and training sessions.
  • The pool manager will collect and receipt all pool fees, record daily attendance, and maintain accurate records.
  • Must be able to work weekdays, weeknights, weekends, holidays, and split shifts.

Education and Experience

  • General education
  • Must be at least 19 years of age or older
  • Must have lifeguarding experience.
  • Office management experience a plus.

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability

  • Knowledge of proper use of lifeguard and pool equipment.
  • Knowledge of lifesaving methods and procedures, including first aid for the professional rescuer and standard resuscitation measures (CPR).
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations governing the conduct of the public at pools.
  • Knowledge of swimming pool sanitation.
  • Skilled in swimming.
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly to an emergency.
  • Ability to adequately supervise a group of lifeguards and pool staff.
  • Must have the ability to deal effectively with the general public.
  • Must have the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations that may arise.
  • Must possess the ability to understand and follow instructions with little supervision.
  • Must be a self-motivated individual.

Other Requirements

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment physical and drug test.
  • Must be able to swim.
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Must be in good physical condition.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with staff and pool patrons (adults and children).
  • Must attend and lead a TEAM in-service training session.

Certifications or Licenses Required

  • Red Cross or equivalent adult and infant CPR certification and First Aid for the professional rescuer certification.
  • Lifeguard certification required with CPO license a plus.
  • Certification must be on file prior to pool opening.
