General Purpose:

Responsible for ensuring that all rules, regulations, policies, and instructions pertaining to the operation and maintenance of the swimming pool is carried out by all employees under their supervision. Ensures quality customer service is provided and handles inquiries from the general public.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

Works under the general supervision of the Recreation Specialist.

Supervise Lifeguards, Cashiers, and other staff as assigned.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assists the Recreation Specialist in the administration of the swimming pool as requested, including but not limited to; determining work procedures, preparing work schedules, expediting workflow, assisting in training, motivating and evaluating staff, coordinating programs, collecting fees, distributing equipment.

Creates and communicates bi-weekly work schedules for all seasonal employees under the approval of Recreation Specialist.

Assists in the preparation of required reports; prepares attendance, accident and routine accounting reports; coordinates, schedules and maintains related records and statistics for programs and personnel at the swimming pool.

Oversees the distribution and collection of bi-weekly timesheets; ensures accuracy and correctness of recorded work times; assists with data entry as needed.

Maintains safe, clean, orderly environment at all times; enforces all policies and procedures of the department; confronts inappropriate behavior and deals with problems according to established policies & procedures.

Evaluates existing situations, and makes decisions concerning hazardous weather conditions which may arise ensuring that the pool is properly staffed at all times.

Explains and enforces basic pool rules and sets a positive example for patrons. Maintains and enforces pool safety.

Assists with maintenance of the city's swimming pool(s); monitors and maintains pool filtration system; monitors pool water chemistry through testing of water samples; adjusts chemistry as needed to maintain standards.

Must submitted a weekly report to the Recreation Specialist.

Requires staff to submit reports on accidents, damage to facilities and equipment, problems among staff, and complaints from facility users. Ensures reports are thoroughly completed and forwarded to the Recreation Specialist.

Supervises cashiers, including but not limited to: management of accepting fees, accounting for fees received, and the turning in of all daily reports and reconciliation.

Administer weekly In-Service Training in accordance with American Red Cross specifications.

Performs other duties as assigned.


Desired Minimum Qualifications:

Previous experience as a pool manager, lifeguard, water safety instructor, or any other previous aquatics experience preferred. Previous experience in managing others both directly or indirectly.

Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License by date of hire.

Must have an American Red Cross certifications to include First Aid, CPR, and AED by date of hire; Lifeguard certification desired, but not required.


Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and customers.

Ability to create and manage reports through Recreation Specialist.

Have the skill to give swimming instructions and assists in all swimming programs as directed.

Ability to be responsible for keeping the building and grounds in a safe, clean, and sanitary condition.

Ability to clean the swimming pool, deck, scum gutters, dressing rooms, showers, entrance to pool, and other areas as required.

Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance. Must be able to work between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. including weekends.


Selection Guidelines:

Formal applications, rating of education and experience; oral interview and reference check; job related tests may be required. Must pass physical demands for the department.


Tools and Equipment Used:

A wet/dry vacuum, Robotic Pool Cleaner, cash register, phone, copy/fax machine, computer (MS Office)

While performing the duty of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.

Physical requirements include occasional lifting/carrying up to 75 pounds; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate chlorinating machines, perform first aid procedures.

Subject to sitting, standing, reaching, walking, twisting, and kneeling to perform the essential functions.

Working conditions primarily in a recreational facility with exposure to outdoor weather conditions, sun, temperature, weather extremes, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The environment is noisy and distracting.
