General Information

Work Location: Premier Aquatic Center: 16410 Rangeland Parkway, Bradenton, Florida 34211; John H. Marble Aquatic Center: 3675 53rd Avenue East, Bradenton, Florida 34203.

Work Hours: Monday - Sunday, variable hours including weekends, early mornings and evenings, and holidays to support operational needs.

Expected Starting Hourly Range: $16.38 - $20.47

Serving in a non-supervisory capacity, is responsible for safe-guarding swimmers at County pool facilities, taking actions necessary to maintain water safety and prevent injury. Performs related duties as assigned, i.e., pool and facility maintenance and cashiering. Work is reviewed through observation, conferences and for results obtained. Position is subject to flexible work schedules, including weekends and holidays.

Essential Functions
  • Observes swimmers at all times, recognizes dangerous situations and takes appropriate action, including performing rescues, artificial respiration and CPR, or First Aid when necessary.
  • Warns patrons against dangerous practices and keeps non-swimmers and weak swimmers out of deep or dangerous water.
  • Enforces County rules, regulations and ordinances and maintains order at the swimming area.
  • Performs routine maintenance, keeping locker rooms and pool areas clean and sanitary.
  • Reports all accidents to supervisors.
  • Provides good public relations.
  • Collects admission fees, as assigned; uses a cash register and correctly handles money.
  • Maintains simple records.
  • Establishes and maintains effective, courteous and proactive relationships with co-workers and the general public.
  • Understands and appropriately carries out instructions, oral and written.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned, including participation in emergency or disaster response activities, as required and consistent with the employee’s qualifications, essential job functions, and applicable federal and Florida law.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must possess current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.
  • Must have a season of life guarding experience. (A season is considered 3 months long).
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered in meeting the minimum qualifications for this position.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Knowledge of, and ability to appropriately apply, principles and practices of water safety and lifesaving procedures.
  • Ability to work flexible work schedules, including weekends and holidays, when required.
  • Ability to react quickly, calmly and appropriately in emergencies.
  • Ability to see and hear sufficiently to ensure safety of patrons.
  • Skill and physical ability in swimming, making rescues, resuscitation and First Aid.
