Position Overview

The Bachelor of Professional Studies program in the School of Professional Studies at the University of Kansas Edwards Campus invites qualified practitioner‑scholars to submit applications that will be reviewed by the search committee and placed in a pool for consideration for part‑time instructor positions. Instructors teach undergraduate‑level courses in the Bachelor of Professional Studies program. Classes and class schedules offered may vary each semester and are dependent upon curricular need, student enrollment and funding availability. All courses are offered online and in an asynchronous format. Instructors report to the Director of the Bachelor of Professional Studies program. Please note that Instructors are assigned to teach a specific sub‑set of these courses, as needed. This position is subject to a collective bargaining agreement between The University of Kansas and United Academics, United Academics of KU, AAUP, or AFT. UAKU is the exclusive representative. As the State of Kansas is a right to work state, you have the right to be a member or not be a member of a union without fear of personal or professional repercussions. Instructors are instructional members of the faculty and are not eligible for tenure or promotion in rank. Primary role is instruction with no obligations to perform research or service. Instructors are placed in single term appointments, with renewal based upon unit needs and funding as well as performance that meets expectations, not to exceed two continuous semesters. Due to complex state employment laws, the University of Kansas may be unable to hire fully remote workers for this position outside of Kansas. Specifically, we cannot currently offer employment to candidates residing in the following states: California, Delaware, Idaho and Minnesota. Job Description


  • 100% Instructional Duties:

    • (30%) - Plans, prepares, and presents recorded weekly content lectures.

    • (30%) - Provides timely, meaningful, supportive feedback on assignments both verbally in class and on written assignments via the learning management system to students in support of individual growth and maintaining an inviting classroom climate.

    • (20%) - Maintains office hour availability at times convenient for working adult students, and offers timely response to student questions via email. Engages with individual students in a way that demonstrates awareness of and respect for difference -- and a commitment to an inviting learning environment for all.

    • (20%) - Updates existing PowerPoints, written assignment instructions, and discussions boards within learning management system (Canvas) as needed to support student learning in each class section. Maintains well-organized, accurate and easy to navigate content within Canvas.




Required Qualifications


  1. Master's degree in relevant discipline (Business, Education, Communication Studies, Project Management) or a closely related discipline.

  2. A demonstrated record of teaching in an academic setting or a record of mentorship, leadership or training experience in a professional setting.

  3. Demonstrated experience and intermediate to advanced level technical skill in using online meeting platforms (i.e., Zoom) and functionality in support of participant engagement and adult learning (general navigational expertise, use of breakout rooms and polling, etc.).


This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have advanced knowledge, analytical skills and professional competencies necessary to perform the duties of the position. The level of degree is commonly recognized as the standard qualification for similar roles in the public and private sector, ensuring that the university remains competitive with industry aligned practices, enhances collaboration with external partners, and supports the delivery of services and programs that meet professional and market‑driven expectations.


Preferred Qualifications


  1. Demonstrated experience creating and managing course content within a learning management system such as Canvas (i.e., structuring modules, posting/updating documents), offering clear, organized online grading and feedback, and maintaining social presence in the asynchronous component of courses.

  2. Doctorate level degree in relevant discipline (Business, Education, Communication Studies, Project Management) or a closely related discipline.
