Job Summary
This posting is for a pooled position. Application submissions for “[ POOL ]” positionsare accepted on an ongoing basis to ensure a continuous and readypool of qualified candidates for immediate review when the needarises. If/when a position becomes available, the College willreview applications from this pool, and interview candidates whosequalifications best match the specific opening. Applicants must reapply to the pool annually to maintain theiractive status in the pool. Sets up Medical Assisting labs and cleans up after labs forinstructors, assists instructors with demonstrations, and assistswith students during practice and evaluations. Helps maintainsupply inventory.
Essential Duties
- Observes students’ technical skills for proficiency. Assiststheory instructors in development of skills lab curriculum andtechniques, administers and proctors quizzes/tests. Monitors andassists with skills demonstrations.
- Provides demonstrations, monitors and assists studentspracticing a wide variety of medical assisting skills including useof instruments, proper sterilization skills, proper personalprotective equipment, etc. Provides for individual instruction andtutoring for students needing to make up labs or needing additionalassistance.
- Assembles and maintains necessary equipment for skills labs.Maintains a clean and orderly classroom/lab with supplies stockedfor skills labs. Ensures all valuable or dangerous equipment islocked in storage rooms between sessions (i.e., needles, syringes,medications, etc.).
- Checks out to students and ensures return of instruments,equipment, and materials.
- Maintains a specific equipment/inventory storage system masterplan and provides Medical Assisting faculty with this information.Provides coordinator with supply list for ordering.
- Assists instructors in maintenance of student records andtracking of skills check off and attendance.
- Participates in divisional activities as assigned bysupervisor.
- Communicates regularly with the Medical Assisting departmentfaculty.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Physical Skills and Abilities
Physical ability to stand for extended periods of time and operateequipment, tools, and instruments in the Medical Assisting field.Sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate laboratoryequipment. Requires the ability to communicate effectively withstaff and students. Requires visual acuity to read words andnumbers and operate lab equipment. Thirty percent or more of thetime duties require standing and some kneeling, stooping orcrouching plus lifting of light to medium weight (10-50 pounds)with or without an accommodation.
Working Conditions
Work is performed indoors with potential exposure to health orsafety hazards 25% of the time. Some tasks require special handlingdue to hazards and contaminants.
Education and Experience

- Position requires certification as a Medical Assistant plusrecent experience working in the Medical Assisting field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must have a working knowledge of instructional techniques andskills sufficient to instruct and tutor students on an informallevel.
- Considerable technical knowledge in the specific area ofMedical Assisting is necessary.
- Requires working knowledge of safety practices, and properoperation and techniques for use of equipment in the industry.
- Strong communication skills required in order to interact withand assist students.
- Ability to set up and maintain laboratory and equipment in asafe, clean and functional manner is required.
- Requires the ability to set up student projects which meet theinstructional goals of faculty.
- Must be able to instruct students in the use of equipment andsupplies and personal protective equipment.
- Must be able to communicate in both formal and informalsettings with students, instructors, and other interestedparties.
- Must be able to work respectfully with individuals of allcultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.

Compensation Information
All Part-time Classified employees begin at Step 1 of the salaryschedule, corresponding to the position’s grade. Placement at a higher step on the salary schedule is not negotiable. Stepincreases are subject to eligibility, and only take place at theend of the Fiscal Year in July if approved and submitted by theemployee’s supervisor of record. Hours worked in more than oneposition or department cannot be combined for step advancement.Part-time Classified employees are paid once monthly, on the lastday of the month.
