Job summary

The City of San Diego hires Pool Guard II to oversee safety at pool facilities, monitor patrons, enforce rules, and perform rescues with first aid/CPR as needed. A pass/fail performance test and required lifeguard certifications are part of the recruitment process.

Full-time (benefitted) and part-time (hourly) roles exist, with potential assignment to several pool sites. Responsibilities include instruction support and reporting; availability June–August with no vacation time during that period

Qualifications

• Must hold valid American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid Certificate.
• CPR/First Aid/AED for Lifeguards required.
• WSI or equivalent certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitor pool and deck areas to prevent accidents.
• Explain and enforce facility regulations and procedures.
• Rescue swimmers in distress and administer first aid/CPR as needed.
• Maintain records and assist with class registrations and reports.
