Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Enforces pool rules and regulations for public safety and convenience.
• Supervises cleaning and filling of pools and locker rooms.

• Performs minor repairs and reports major repairs.
• Requisitions operating supplies and equipment.
• Watches swimmers and performs rescue, artificial respiration, and first aid when necessary.
• Assists in promotion and organization of water programs and learn-to-swim classes, and schedules events.
• Supervises maintenance of pool areas and facilities.
• Back-flushes pool filters.
• Maintains inventory control of pool equipment.
• Performs related work as required.

Job description

This is responsible work in the management and maintenance of a municipal swimming pool including general life saving duties in the preservation of safety and order.

• Effects the enforcement of pool rules and regulations for the safety and convenience of the public.

• Supervises cleaning and filling of the pools and cleaning of the locker rooms.

• Tests the operation of water treatment and related equipment daily to conform with operating policies and state health regulations.

• Performs minor repairs and adjustments to pool equipment and reports need for major repairs.

• Requisitions operating supplies and equipment.

• Watches children and adult swimmers and performs rescue, artificial respiration, and renders first aid when necessary.

• Assists in the promotion, organizing and direction of water programs, "learn to swim programs" and schedules special events.

• Supervises the maintenance of assigned pool areas and facilities.

• Back-flushes pool filters.

• Maintains inventory control of pool equipment.

• Performs related work as required.

• Must possess and maintain current certificates: HRS Swimming Pool Operator; American Red Cross, YMCA, or other nationally recognized aquatic training program in Water Safety Instructor, Standard First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Lifeguard Training.

• Employee must obtain and maintain current certification as instructor in: Standard First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Lifeguard Today, prior to completion of probationary period.

• Maintain Certification as required by the Division.

• Ability to work nights, weekends and/or holidays.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.

• Physical ability to effect pool rescues under difficult conditions.

• Willingness to participate in a training program in order to maintain proper physical fitness.

• Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact .

• Some sitting, standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, and swimming.
