Job summary

Hotel Californian in Santa Barbara seeks an experienced Pool Bartender to craft cocktails and recommend beverages, while maintaining a high standard of service. You will stay current on drinks, operate the bar efficiently, and support team duties in a fast-paced luxury setting.

The role requires 1+ year(s) of bartending in a busy hotel or lounge, strong guest-service skills, and the ability to manage cash and use a POS system. Weekend/holiday availability is expected.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• 1+ years’ experience as Bartender in a high‑volume, upscale hotel or lounge.
• Thorough knowledge of alcoholic beverages, cocktails, and service.
• Certification of Responsible Vendor training or ability to obtain.
• Exceptional guest service skills.
• Basic computer and cash handling skills.
• Ability to stand, bend and lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly.
• Flexibility to work weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Inventories beverages and supplies; orders replacements.
• Performs closing duties and secures inventory.

JOB SUMMARY

The Pool Bartender is responsible for providing libations and offering customized recommendations. He/she keeps up with the latest in mixology, bar equipment, and sanitation standards, with a focus on maintaining an attractive bar.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintains current knowledge of all popular alcoholic beverages and cocktail recipes
• Prepares all necessary mixers and garnishes prior to start of service and during shift as needed
• Supports the team in daily duties including but not limited to restocking, cleaning, opening and closing duties
• Records all aspects of guest order accurately and enters them into the computer
• Strong verbal and written communication skills required
• Ability to multitask, cash handling, computer and cash register experience is highly desirable
• Monitors guests to prevent overindulgence and ensure safety
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multitask
• Accurately handles routine purchase transactions which include operating cash register and accounting of daily sales processes
• Serves guests in a polite, professional manner according to Foley Standards
• Greets guests, can answer basic questions about the property and brand
• Communicates effectively with teammates and managers alike
• Prepares alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to order upon request
• Inventories all beverages and operating supplies, orders replacement items as needed
• Performs all closing duties, secures all inventory and supplies

Requirements

SKILLS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• High School diploma or equivalent
• One + years’ experience as Bartender in a high volume, upscale Hotel or free standing Lounge environment
• Thorough knowledge of Alcoholic Beverages, Cocktail; recipes, preparation methods, glassware, equipment and service
• Certification of training in Responsible Vendor requirements or ability to obtain same
• Exceptional guest service skills
• Basic computer and cash handling skills
• Ability to stand stoop, bend and lift items weighing up to 50 pounds repetitively during entire shift
• Ability to work flexible schedule to include weekends and holidays
