Job description

Summary

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, performing diagnostic testing, analysis, and other related duties within the sleep disorders department. May be asked to rotate to other sleep labs to cover staff shortages or fluctuations in patient volume.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Calibrates equipment before and after use.
2. Performs patient preparation for procedures.
3. Sets up equipment and performs testing and analysis as ordered by the physician.
4. Checks equipment in use on patients and makes appropriate adjustments as needed.
5. Collects, analyzes, and integrates patient information to identify and meet the patient's specific needs, and to determine final testing parameters in conjunction with the physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Recognizes age-specific care in treatment, assessment, and education of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
• Provides setup for Nocturnal Polysomnography (NPSG), Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), all positive airway pressure (PAP) and Oxygen titration, and Home Sleep Testing (HST).
• Performs PAP mask fitting, charts procedures, and completes paperwork.
• Responds to emergencies by calling the code response team or 911.
• Documents communication with patients and physicians, and attends department meetings.
• Informs supervisor of needed supplies, cleans equipment per policy, and maintains a neat work environment.
• Scores PSG and CPAP titrations, completes inter-score reliability testing, and assists with training new employees.
• Demonstrates knowledge of safety precautions and participates in staff education and quality improvement efforts.
• Communicates openly with hospital staff and demonstrates competency in Infection Prevention and Control Practices.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Certifications and Licensures

• BLS - Basic Life Support (Required, within 1 month of hire or transfer)
• RPSGT - Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (Required)

Required Education

• High School Diploma or GED
• Sleep lab experience in collection and scoring preferred; graduate of a sleep program preferred; associate degree preferred.
