Job summary

The John D. Dingell VA Medical Center in Detroit, MI is recruiting a Medical Instrument Technician (Polysomnography) to conduct comprehensive sleep studies and calibrate polysomnography equipment. The technician will determine CPAP needs during overnight studies and score results for interpretation by physicians.

Experience includes handling complex sleep disorders and training junior staff. BRPT registration is highly desirable, and BCLS/ACLS certifications are beneficial.

Qualifications

• Registration by BRPT is highly desirable.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications are desirable.
• English language proficiency required.
• Preferred experience: 5 years as a registered sleep tech/polysomnographer.

Responsibilities

• Performs full range of standard polysomnography examinations with proper calibration of instruments.
• Selects electrode montages and settings to elicit best tracings.
• Independently determine need for CPAP during overnight sleep studies.
• Mentor lower graded technicians and provide patient education.
• Ensure completed studies are scored accurately and uploaded to storage.
