Job summary

The University of Chicago Medicine is seeking a Polysomnography Technician for 100% onsite work in the Sleep department at Tinley Park. The role involves conducting polysomnography studies ( PSGs, CPAPs, MSLTs ) under supervision and ensuring quality patient care in a fast-paced academic hospital setting.

Qualifications include an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a sleep-related field, or progress toward registration within 90 days, plus active BLS and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a related field, in progress or completed.
  • Registration as a Polysomnography Technologist or plan to register within 90 days.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to select appropriate tests based on clinical status.
  • Professional attitude and willingness to expand duties.
  • Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with physicians to plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate patient care and outcomes.
  • Provide polysomnography procedures and assist the care team as appropriate.
  • Monitor quality of patient care and patient satisfaction.
  • Pursue professional development opportunities.
  • Oversee daily operations of the Sleep Center.
  • Adhere to hospital policies and support corporate compliance.
  • Partner with care team to meet patient, family, and physician needs.
  • Follow corporate compliance plan and report issues as required.

Job Description

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system,UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital as a Polysomnography Technician in the Sleep department . This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

The Poly Tech is under the direction of the Clinical Supervisor of Neurophysiology, performs all types of Polysomnography including routine PSGs, CPAPs, MSLTs, and technical data analysis of each test. Knows, follows and actively supports the philosophy, mission and vision of Ingalls Hospital. The Poly Tech adheres to all hospital policies, procedures and standards of care. Observes and adheres to all corporate compliance requirements and communicates issues as they arise to the appropriate personnel as identified in the Corporate Compliance Plan.

Essential Job Functions
  • Collaborates closely with physicians to assess, design, coordinate, implement, and evaluate the patients’ plan of care and the patients’ outcomes
  • Demonstrates the necessary skills and knowledge to provide complex nursing skills and delegates tasks to other Care Team members according to unit specific competencies as appropriate to the age of the patients served as delineated in the Patient Care Centers Scope of Care
  • Responsible for and monitors the quality of patient care and patient satisfaction
  • Accurately and independently pursues professional development opportunities
  • Assumes responsibility to assure the daily operations of the Patient Care Center are effectively and efficiently maintained
  • Works within the accepted service standards and supports the Vision of Ingalls Hospital
  • Works in partnership with other patient care team members and pro-actively identifies and provides for individual patient, family, and physicians needs exceeding their expectations, and employing appropriate customer relations
  • Knows, follows and actively supports the philosophy, mission and Vision of Ingalls Hospital
  • Adheres to all hospital policies, procedures and standards of care
  • Observes and adheres to all corporate compliance requirements and communicates issues as they arise to the appropriate parties as identified in the Corporate Compliance Plan
Required Qualifications
  • Preferably an Associate/Bachelor of Arts or Associate/Bachelor of Science Degree, or equivalent, completed or in progress
  • Registered Polysomnography Technologist, or planning on completing registration within 90 days. Upon completion of requirements to receive Registered status, the employee’s professional title will be changed to Polysomnography Technologist
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Effective verbal and written communication, including ability to communicate with other cultures or those with language or cognitive impairments
  • Ability to choose appropriate tests and protocols based on clinical status and/or situations
  • Professional minded & ambitious to expand professional duties/abilities
  • Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of healthcare experience in a related field in Sleep

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
