Job description

Under the supervision of physicians, the polysomnographic technologist is responsible for independently performing patient care duties and providing customer service to clients of the sleep disorders center.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Preparing patients for diagnostic testing according to departmental procedures.
  2. Educating patients on sleep lab procedures.
  3. Accurately scoring and analyzing sleep studies.
  4. Evaluating equipment function for optimal results.
  5. Performing therapeutic treatments and interventions independently.
  6. Maintaining responsibility for the work area.
  7. Participating in professional activities and continuing education related to sleep disorders.
  8. Performing other duties as assigned.
Position Compensation Range:

$24.24 - $38.78 Hourly

Minimum Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree or 6 months relevant experience in a related field such as Sleep EEG, Respiratory Therapy, or similar.
  • Experience: Practice experience necessary to obtain Virginia licensure as a Polysomnographic Technologist.
  • Licensure: Licensed as a Polysomnographic Technologist by the Virginia Board of Medicine, or credentialed as a Sleep Disorders Specialist by the NBRC, or an approved credential meeting accreditation standards.
  • Certification: AHA BLS certification required. Certification as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist or NBRC-SDS required within 6 months of hire or eligibility.
Physical Demands:

Prolonged sitting, frequent travel, repetitive motions (computer use), proficient communication skills, attention to detail, ability to lift/move patients, and potential exposure to fumes, chemicals, and infectious diseases.
