Job summary

Regions is seeking a Polysomnographic Technologist to join our Sleep Center team in Minnesota. The role involves overnight polysomnograms and monitoring patients under medical supervision.

The technologist works independently with advanced equipment, records respiratory, cardiac, and brain activity, and prepares concise reports detailing sleep/wake stages and events. BLS and RPSGT credentials preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma/GED with OTJ training in Polysomnography and successful passing of the RPSGT exam.
  • Certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (or registry eligible).
  • Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support.

Responsibilities

  • Operate polysomnography equipment to record sleep/wake physiology.
  • Record review/scoring of polysomnograms and generate reports.
  • Monitor patients overnight and ensure safety according to protocols.
  • Perform procedures such as multiple sleep latency testing and ambulatory monitoring.

Polysomnographic Technologist

Regions is looking to hire a Polysomnographic Technologist to join our Sleep Center team! Come join us as a Partner for Good and help us make an impact on the care and experience that our patients and their families receive every day.

Position Summary:

The Polysomnographic Technologist works under medical supervision to perform and evaluate overnight polysomnograms. This individual functions independently to safely operate sophisticated medical equipment to record sleep/wake physiology. The application of recording devices, cleaning/sterilization of equipment and monitoring of polysomnogram are essential duties of the technologist. Polysomnographic technologists must recognize sleep pathology when it occurs in the laboratory and respond with the appropriate interventions to ensure patient safety.

Knowledge of normal cardiorespiratory, neurologic, and sleep physiology is essential to the polysomnographic technologist. The technologist understands the function of equipment used to monitor and record breathing (airflow/effort), electroencephalograms (brain waves), electrocardiograms (heart rate and rhythm), electromyograms (muscle activity), and pulse oximetry (blood oxygenation/saturation).

The polysomnographic technologist monitors nasal continuous positive pressure, oxygen, and employs ventilatory assistance devices in accordance with established protocols. This individual is also Certified in Basic Life Support. The technologist also performs special procedures such as multiple sleep latency testing, pediatric polysomnography, ambulatory monitoring, and patient education.

Record review/scoring of polysomnograms is an integral part of the job and may consume as much time as data acquisition. The identification of normal/abnormal patterns, artifacts, and sleep/wake stages is critical to high quality patient care. The polysomnographic technologist generates a report that accurately and concisely summarizes the patient’s sleep/wake stages, respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousal analysis, and other clinical events.

Work Schedule:

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights 7:30pm-7:30am

Required Qualifications:
  • Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination: High School diploma/GED with OTJ training in Polysomnography of no less than one year duration, associated with a state licensed and/or nationally accredited facility. and successful passing of the RPSGT exam.
  • Licensure/ Registration/ Certification: Certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist. ( or registry eligible)
  • Licensure/ Registration/ Certification: Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Demonstrates knowledge of age-related growth and development principles necessary to provide appropriate service and assure safety of patients.
