Job summary

Mass General Brigham is seeking a Sleep Technologist to conduct and oversee sleep studies and polysomnography procedures, recording data and assisting physicians in diagnosing sleep disorders.

Responsibilities include supervising overnight studies, educating patients, maintaining equipment, and mentoring junior technologists. AAS in a related field is required; BLS is required and RPSGT preferred.

Qualifications

  • Education: Associate's Degree Related Field of Study required; Bachelor's preferred.
  • Licenses: BLS Certification; Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) preferred.
  • Experience: Polysomnography Technologist 5-7 years required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and interpret sleep studies, including overnight polysomnograms, MSLTs, MWTs, and HSAT.
  • Assess patients, review histories, and consult physicians on protocols and treatments.
  • Apply and secure electrodes to record EEG, EOG, EMG, EKG, respiratory effort, and related data.
  • Operate and maintain polysomnography equipment with proper calibration.
  • Monitor patients during studies and ensure safety and adherence to protocols.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to junior technologists.
  • Educate patients about sleep disorders and post-study recommendations.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues during sleep studies.

Job Summary

Responsible for conducting and overseeing sleep studies and polysomnography procedures including comprehensive sleep assessments, records physiological data during sleep studies, and assists in diagnosing and treating various sleep disorders. Additionally, provides leadership and guidance to junior technologists and ensures the efficient operation of the sleep laboratory.

Essential Functions
  • Perform and interpret sleep studies, including overnight polysomnograms, multiple sleep latency tests (MSLTs), maintenance of wakefulness tests (MWTs), and home sleep apnea testing (HSAT).
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, review medical histories, and collaborate with sleep medicine physicians to determine appropriate sleep study protocols and treatments.
  • Apply and secure electrodes on patients to record physiological data during sleep, including EEG, EOG, EMG, EKG, respiratory effort, airflow, oxygen saturation, and other relevant parameters.
  • Operate and maintain polysomnography equipment, ensuring proper calibration and functioning.
  • Monitor patients during sleep studies, ensuring their safety, comfort, and adherence to study protocols.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to junior polysomnography technologists, guiding their training and professional development.
  • Educate patients about sleep disorders, the purpose of sleep studies, and post-study recommendations or treatments.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues that may arise during sleep studies.
Qualifications

Education
Associate's Degree Related Field of Study required and Bachelor's Degree Related Field of Study preferred

Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - Data Conversion - Various Issuers preferred Registered Polysomnographic Technologist [RPSGT] - Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists preferred

  • Demonstrated competence in conducting sleep studies and interpreting data.
