Job description

To perform physician-ordered diagnostic testing related to sleep, including arriving and registering patients as needed, and completing all required documentation in a timely manner.

Responsibilities
  1. Performs sleep studies such as Multiple Sleep Latency Test, Maintenance of Wakefulness test, Parasomnia studies, PAP, Oxygen titration, and collects appropriate data for physician review.
  2. Implements necessary interventions for patient safety and therapeutic purposes, including continuous and bi-level positive airway pressures and oxygen administration.
  3. Prepares and calibrates testing equipment to ensure proper functioning, notifying Clinical Engineering if servicing is needed.
  4. Applies electrodes and sensors according to accepted standards, performing physiologic calibrations and adjustments as necessary.
  5. Explains pre-testing, testing, and post-testing procedures to patients to ensure understanding and compliance.
  6. Handles patient registration and discharge, ensuring all documentation is completed accurately.
  7. Follows 'light out' and 'light on' procedures to establish and document baseline values, and records routine observations per standards and guidelines.
  8. Scoring sleep studies within scope of practice and with necessary certifications (RST, RPSGT, or SDS).
  9. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Registered Technologists in the sleep medicine field.

Years of Experience: At least 2 years.

Required Skills and Knowledge: Polysomnographic Technologists and Scoring Technologists.

Licenses & Certifications

Certification by a nationally recognized certification board and the following credentials are required:

  • Registered Sleep Technologist (RST), Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT), or Sleep Disorders Specialist (SDS) if scoring sleep studies.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) if not scoring sleep studies.
