Job summary

The Maine Sleep Center at Chest Medicine Associates in South Portland, Maine is seeking Polysomnographic Technologists for part-time or per diem roles. Positions include 1-2 nights per week for part-time; per diem roles include 2-3 Mondays per month or 1-3 nights per month.

Responsibilities include performing PSGs and MSLTs, verifying orders, applying equipment, scoring studies, and ensuring patient safety. Certifications required: RPSGT or RRT-SDS, and BLS for Healthcare Providers.

Qualifications

  • Certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (RPSGT) or the RRT-SDS credential is required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience performing PSGs and/or MSLTs. Scoring proficiency is desirable.
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Provider certification is required.

Responsibilities

  • Review the patient’s history and verify the medical order.
  • Verify patient identification, collect documents, and obtain consent for the study.
  • Collect, analyze, and integrate patient information to identify and meet patient-specific needs (physical/mental limitations, current emotional/physiological status regarding the testing procedure, pertinent medical/social history).
  • Follow sleep center protocols or physician order.
  • Explain the procedure and orient the patient for in‑center testing.
  • Provide age‑appropriate patient education.
  • Select appropriate equipment and calibrate for testing to determine proper functioning and adjust if necessary.
  • Apply electrodes and sensors according to protocol or generally accepted standards.
  • Perform diagnostic polysomnography.
  • Perform routine positive airway pressure (PAP) interface fitting and desensitization.
  • Perform CPAP/Bi-level/ASV titration studies.
  • Perform MSLT/MWT.
  • Score studies in accordance with AASM standards.
  • Properly clean and disinfect equipment.

The Maine Sleep Center at Chest Medicine Associates , an AASM-accredited facility, is currently hiring Polysomnographic Technologists (Per diem/days for MSLTs and part-time/nights for PSGs).

Part-time Polysomnographic Technologist

  • Work 1-2 nights per week

Per diem Polysomnographic Technologist

  • Perform MSLTs on 2-3 Mondays per month, and/or
  • Work 1-3 nights per month
Requirements of the Polysomnographic Technologist
  • For Polysomnographic Technologists, certification by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (RPSGT) or the RRT-SDS credential is required.
