Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health Sleep Center in Woburn, MA seeks a Per Diem Polysomnographic Technician to perform diagnostic sleep studies, apply electrodes, fit CPAP masks, and monitor patient safety. You will prepare rooms, review orders, collect patient information, and document findings for physician review to support accurate diagnoses and effective therapies.

Requirements include an accredited polysomnography program and BRPT eligibility; enrollment in CAAHEP/CoARC program if not yet registered.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a nationally recognized polysomnography program (≥1 year).
  • BRPT eligibility within one year of hire or after program completion.
  • Enrollment in or completion of a CAAHEP or CoARC polysomnography program.

Responsibilities

  • Gathers and analyzes patient information by reviewing physician orders.
  • Greets patients and assists with questionnaires.
  • Explains pretesting, testing and post-testing procedures to patients.
  • Prepares room and equipment, verifies function, and makes adjustments as needed.
  • Applies electrodes and sensors per AASM guidelines and performs sleep study monitoring.
  • Performs CPAP mask fitting and initiates therapeutic interventions as needed.
  • Transfers sleep studies to the server and handles billing charges in automated system.

This clinical staff position will have an impact on improving patient and physician satisfaction by providing the best possible experience for our patients as well as providing accurate therapeutic diagnostic sleep studies for physician review.Job Description:QUALIFICATIONSEducation Required:Successful completion of a nationally recognized accredited Polysomnographer program of no less than one year duration, associated with a state licensed and/or a nationally accredited educational facilityExperience consistent with the requirements for successful completion of an ASTEP program and prerequisites required to be eligible to sit for the BRPT examinationORMust be enrolled in or have completed training in polysomnography in a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) program with the polysomnography option.Education Preferred: Associates of Science degree in Respiratory Care or clinical training course from an American Society of Electroencephalogram Technicians (EEG)LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, CERTIFICATIONSRequired:For employees hired on or after July 1, 2013:Registry-eligible upon hire. Must become registered with the BRPT or equivalent credential within one year of hire.For non-registered technicians enrolled in CAAHEP or CoARC program, must become registered with the BRPT or equivalent credential within one year of program completion.BLSPreferred: Registered upon hireJOB FUNCTIONSAs part of the Sleep Center team, the Polysomnographic TechnicianGathers and analyzes patient information by reviewing physician orders for specific tests.Greets patient and works with patient on completing patient questionnaire.Explains pretesting, testing and post testing procedure to patients.Prepares room and equipment for use by collaborating equipment required for testing and verify proper functions and make adjustment as necessary.Applies electrodes and sensors to patient according to AASM guidelines.Performs appropriate physiological collaboration and makes adjustment as necessaryPerforms C-pap mask fitting.Performs sleep study and monitors patient for proper function of all PSG channel throughout the study.Compiles and documents routine observation including sleep stages, clinical events, or any changes in events during study.Initiates proper therapeutic intervention by using, c-pap, bi-pap or oxygen administration, etc.Transfers sleep studies to server.Processes billing charges for patient study in automated system.Upon completion of required training and competencies, may assume charge role, at the discretion of the sleep center supervisor.Pay Range:$28.00 – $37.68The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.
