Summary

A Polysomnographic Technician Trainee is a technician performing the duties of a polysomnographic technician during the first 12 months in the position. The trainee performs quality, comprehensive polysomnographic testing, analysis, and associated interventions for treatment under the general supervision of the Clinical Team Lead, Clinical Manager, Medical Director (MD, PhD, DO), or designee.

Job Duties
  • Gathers and analyzes patient information, including review of history.
  • Prepares and calibrates testing equipment.
  • Communicates the testing procedure to the patient to ensure understanding.
  • Performs bio-calibrations and impedance testing to ensure data integrity.
  • Assists in polysomnographic record scoring and reporting per department protocols.
  • Provides sleep equipment hookup and ensures appropriate data acquisition while maintaining continuous visual and auditory monitoring of the patient and clinical events on the recording.
  • Implements interventions to eliminate artifacts on the record.
  • Provides treatment modalities to patients according to department protocol.
  • Documents observations and pertinent clinical information accurately into the patient's medical record.
  • Performs post-test procedures, including cleaning, sterilization, and maintenance of equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Ability to provide safe, compassionate, and competent patient care.
  • Computer skills appropriate for the position.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support - State of Pennsylvania within 90 days.
  • RPSGT - Registered Polysomnographer Technologist - State of Pennsylvania within 3 years.
  • Driver's License - Pennsylvania upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical School Diploma.
  • One year of successful college-level math and science coursework or relevant healthcare work experience.
  • Knowledge/Experience with EPIC system.
  • Knowledge of sleep testing procedures and equipment.
  • Ability to perform sleep equipment hookup and monitoring.
Physical Demands

Lift and carry 40-50 lbs., including pushing/pulling patients on beds or stretchers, lateral transfers, and patient transport. Frequent standing/walking, with some activities requiring kneeling, bending, squatting, and performing CPR.
