Job summary

Precise Systems, Inc. seeks a full-time team member to work on materials, environmental effects, and engineering projects across multiple Navy facilities, including Washington, DC and Key West, FL, with regular travel to NRLKW.

Qualifications

  • 3 years of experience in materials research, environmental effects, and engineering projects.
  • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) modeling.
  • Experience with MATLAB for data acquisition, analysis and presentation.
  • Sound knowledge of physical and mechanical properties of structural polymers, composites, and adhesives.
  • Understanding of polymer formulations for material screening.
  • Proven understanding of adhesion concepts including surface chemistry and viscoelasticity.
  • Understanding of polymer/composite degradation and accelerated life testing for lifecycle prediction.
  • Ability to develop material qualification specifications.
  • Ability to use modeling, experimental, and analytical data to inform investigations.
  • Ability to communicate with cross-functional groups to progress research to product delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Develop test data to support Navy polymer design and predict field performance.
  • Research and define engineering approaches to plastics, composites, elastomers, sealants, and adhesives in seawater environments.
  • Perform mechanical testing to understand material properties and support research.
  • Develop material qualification specifications.
  • Use modeling and data to inform theory-based investigations.
  • Communicate with cross-functional groups to progress research to product delivery and potential fleet applications.
  • Conduct failure mode analysis and root-cause investigations for product quality issues.
