Job summary

Alutiiq InformatonManagement, LLC is seeking a Sr. Materials Engineer to lead the new materials laboratory at the Forge on Schofield Barracks, Oahu, HI. The role focuses on polymer science, reverse engineering, and material characterization to support NIWC operations.

The position requires 5+ years in materials testing and lab management, a Master’s degree (Ph.D. a plus), U.S. citizenship, and the ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance. Travel domestically may be required.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in materials testing, analysis, and laboratory management.
• Deep background in polymer science, polymer chemistry, or polymer engineering.
• Ability to independently direct lab workflows and manage complex material testing projects.
• U.S. Citizenship status required and ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, equipment procurement, setup, and operational management of the new materials laboratory.
• Direct and execute high-level materials reverse engineering to identify structures and properties.
• Supervise and conduct evaluations of material properties to optimize production choices.
• Act as SME for polymer chemistry in engineering applications.
• Leverage additive manufacturing to test printed materials in production.
• Develop technical documentation, ensure lab safety, and consult with senior leadership.
