Job summary

Precise Systems, Inc. seeks a full-time team member to advance materials and environmental effects research for Navy applications. Work spans office, lab, and field with travel to NRL facilities and shipboard environments, based in Washington, DC or Key West, FL.

The role demands 3 years’ experience in materials research, strong FEA and MATLAB skills, and hands-on testing of polymers, composites, and adhesives. Security clearance (Secret) and US citizenship are required.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate, Masters degree or Ph.D. in polymer/plastics engineering, materials science/engineering, mechanical engineering, or chemistry.
  • 3 years' experience in materials research, environmental effects, and engineering projects.
  • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) modeling.
  • Experience with MATLAB for data acquisition, analysis and presentation.
  • Sound knowledge of physical and mechanical properties of structural polymers, composites, and adhesives.
  • Understanding of polymer formulations to develop material screening approaches.
  • Knowledge of adhesion science concepts including surface chemistry and viscoelasticity.

Responsibilities

  • Develop test data to set requirements and predict field performance for Navy-relevant multi-layer multi-material designs.
  • Research and communicate engineering approaches to meet design gaps for plastics, composites, elastomers, sealants, and adhesives in seawater environments.
  • Perform mechanical testing and produce experimental data to support ongoing research.
  • Develop material qualification specifications.
  • Use modeling, experimental, and analytical data to inform investigations.
  • Interface with cross-functional groups to progress research to product delivery and fleet applications.
