Exponent Inc. in Seattle seeks a Chemical/Materials Engineer or Scientist for the Polymers and Chemistry Practice. You will join an interdisciplinary team tackling projects from construction materials to consumer products, with emphasis on polymeric material performance and failure analysis.

The role requires a Ph.D. with industrial experience and a background in macromolecules, analytical techniques, and data analysis.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
Strong theoretical and practical background in macromolecules and related chemistry/physics.
Experience with FTIR, DSC, TGA, microscopy and related analytical techniques.
Ability to design and validate novel or non-standard testing approaches.

Responsibilities

Conduct inspections, scientific analyses, and testing on polymeric materials.
Perform root-cause analyses of failures in product development and manufacturing.
Analyze technical data and develop efficient approaches for large datasets.
Review literature, project records, and process data to identify key facts.
Communicate findings to engineering, business, law, and industry audiences.
Collaborate across disciplines and tackle new technical challenges.
