Verdox seeks a Polymer Chemist to join our R&D team.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design and synthesize polymers with specific electrochemical and physico-chemical properties.
2. Examine and develop diverse polymer chemistry, employing various types of polymerizations, polymer backbones, and purification techniques.
3. Focus on developing and optimizing synthetic protocols for cost-effective polymer synthesis and purification at the multi-kilogram scale and beyond.
4. Perform and interpret the physical, chemical, and electrochemical characterization of monomers and polymers.
5. Oversee quality control of polymer products.
6. Use and maintain elements of the chemistry R&D infrastructure.

Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise

• PhD in Synthetic/Organic/Polymer Chemistry (or equivalent), with focus on polymer synthesis, purification, and physical characterization. Some industry experience is preferred.
• Strong polymer chemistry experience, including the design and preparation of novel polymer structures.
• Advanced organic synthesis skills - ability to design and synthesize monomers and polymers with desired properties. This includes multistep synthesis, Schlenk line and air-free techniques.
• Characterization techniques such as NMR, GPC, GC/LC-MS, MALDI-TOF, FT-IR, UV-Vis, etc.; physical techniques like SEM, TEM, AFM, tensile strength testing.
• Experience with purification techniques, including polymer workup and purification at the kilogram scale.
• Scale-up experience (preferred), including gram to kilogram scale synthesis.
• Electrochemistry experience (preferred), including organic electrochemistry and electrochemical techniques.
• Proficiency with ChemDraw, NMR analysis software, Excel, MATLAB (or equivalent).
• Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Comfortable working in a dynamic startup environment.
