Position Summary Information
Position SummaryPurpose, Scope & Dimension of Job: Faculty facilitate student learning and initiate and participate in efforts to improve student success. They assess learning outcomes and their teaching effectiveness, adhere to ethical standards (e.g., NEA, State of Michigan), and maintain licensure. Responsibilities include professional development, curriculum development, collegial responsibilities, communication, safety, and teaching in political science, following course objectives and content.
Minimum Requirements
  • Master's degree in Political Science, Government, Comparative Politics, or a related field with at least 18 graduate credits in Political Science.
  • Understanding of and commitment to community college teaching mission and philosophy.
  • Innovative, flexible, and positive teaching style suitable for diverse backgrounds.
  • Language skills: reading, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting information effectively.
  • Mathematical skills: applying fractions, percentages, ratios, and basic statistical concepts.
  • Reasoning ability: solving practical problems and interpreting instructions.
  • Technology skills: integrating computer applications into teaching.
  • Ability to apply current research and theory, plan lessons, and establish collegial relationships.
A foreign degree must be certified by a professional evaluation service at the candidate's expense.
Additional Desirable Qualifications
  • Two years of community college teaching experience.
  • Experience with technology in teaching (online resources, course management software).
Physical Requirements/Working ConditionsThe employee must be mobile around campus, able to communicate effectively, utilize computer programs independently, and present information in instructional settings.
Work ScheduleWhile not required to hold regular office hours, faculty should make provisions for student consultations.
Additional InformationOnsite teaching is required; online-only teaching is not available. Candidates may need to provide a professional portfolio. Visa sponsorship is not available. Candidates must pass a drug test and background check.
