Job summary

California State University, Office of the Chancellor seeks a Policy Specialist to support and coordinate the Office of Federal Relations in federal higher education policy and funding. The role is based in Washington, D.C. with telecommuting two days per week and three days in the office.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Zoom, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and SharePoint.
  • Strong proofreading and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle politically sensitive issues and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Facility with computer research techniques and network information services.
  • Interpersonal skills for interacting with senior executives and management staff.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on legislative and policy matters.
  • Handle confidential and sensitive labor and employment matters.
  • Track legislation of interest and contact relevant Congressional offices.
  • Draft summaries, correspondence, and memoranda.
  • Assist with planning and preparations for OFR events.
  • Assist with development and maintenance of external and internal web pages.
  • Perform office-wide administrative duties including databases, accounts payable, budgets, HR forms, and scheduling.
  • Make recommendations to the Assistant Vice Chancellor on administrative systems and purchases.
  • Manage OFR’s student intern program and facilitate CSU intern opportunities in Washington, D.C.

About the Position

California State University, Office of the Chancellor is seeking a Policy Specialist to support and coordinate the Office of Federal Relations (OFR) in matters related to federal higher education policy and funding.

Salary

Anticipated salary hiring range up to $71,004 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Location & Work Arrangements

Position is located in Washington, D.C. Approved for telecommuting two days per week and three days in office.

  • Make recommendations to the Assistant Vice Chancellor on administrative systems and purchases.
  • Manage OFR’s student intern program and facilitate CSU intern opportunities in Washington, D.C.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years of relevant administrative experience or equivalent educational and experiential combination.
  • Understanding of federal legislative and executive processes and the ability to conduct legislative research.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Zoom, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and SharePoint.
  • Strong proofreading and written communication skills.
