Asia Society is seeking a Summer Intern for the Policy Institute's Center for China Analysis in New York or Washington, D.C. The role supports two flagship projects on China demography and social dissent, assisting with data coding, literature reviews, and policy summaries.

Requires Mandarin (reading preferred), strong English writing, and Excel/data skills. The internship runs May–August 2026, is part-time, and offers compensation of $17.95–$18.40 per hour.

Qualifications

  • Must be a recent graduate or graduate student.
  • Commit to 18 hours per week for at least 12 weeks.
  • In-person at ASPI offices in Washington, D.C. or New York for at least two days a week; remote considered with strong qualifications.
  • Familiarity with China policy issues via study or experience.
  • Strong research, writing, and editing skills in English.
  • Proficiency with Excel; data handling experience a plus.
  • Interest in data visualization or coding tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Track developments in Chinese society using Chinese and English sources.
  • Assist with event coding and data entry for the social dissent project.
  • Compile and organize datasets from public sources.
  • Write, edit, and proofread research summaries, data narratives, and memos.
  • Conduct targeted literature reviews on specified topics.
  • Support event logistics and attendee management for roundtables/workshops.
  • Help maintain ASPI’s digital presence with newsletters and social materials.
  • Other duties as assigned.
