Job summary

The Hoover Institution at Stanford University seeks outstanding postdoctoral scholars with physics expertise for the Postdoctoral Research Fellow rank. This fellowship offers an opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research at the intersection of science, technology and public policy.

Selected fellows will engage in policy-relevant research across AI, energy, climate science and related fields, collaborating with Senior Fellow Steven Koonin and other leading researchers.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Physics or related field by commencement of employment.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
• In residence at Stanford; moving/research allowance available.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• One-year commitment (renewable based on mutual agreement and performance).
• Full-time commitment with no competing major professional obligations.

Responsibilities

• Conduct original, policy-relevant research in physics and related fields as they apply to technology innovation and policy.
• Co-author influential policy analyses intended for public release and briefing to high-level officials.
• Collaborate with Senior Fellow Steven Koonin, Professor Persis Drell, and other experts to advance research on the research innovation ecosystem.
• Contribute to interdisciplinary projects spanning AI, energy, climate, and emerging technologies.
• Organize and participate in meetings with scientists, policymakers, and industry experts.
• Help organize conferences, workshops, and lectures on science, technology, and innovation policy.
