Job summary

Michigan Environmental Justice Coalition (MEJC) is seeking a Policy Director to lead our policy team and advance a people-centered climate justice agenda across Michigan. You will coach staff, shape legislative priorities, and stand with frontline communities to fight for environmental justice.

Qualifications

• 5-8 years of supervisory experience and ability to set goals for campaigns and organizing work.
• Proven success leading issue campaigns, policy research, leadership development, and grassroots mobilization.
• Understanding of Environmental Justice and EJ Principles and impact on frontline communities.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and supervise MEJC policy staff, fellows, interns, and contractors with regular check-ins and evaluations.
• Guide and manage MEJC’s EJ Caucus and cultivate leadership among staff, members, and partners.
• Set MEJC’s policy positions and legislative priorities with the organizing team and frontline communities.
• Analyze proposed legislation and translate complex bills into accessible information for communities.
• Build relationships with legislators and staff, and train others in lobbying and advocacy.
• Guide research papers with partner organizations and promote them upon release.
• Represent MEJC with the press and in coalitions and alliances (MEMJ, MICAN, CJA, Elevate).
• Develop budgets, track spending, and manage data metrics for campaigns and grants.
