Job summary

MEJC in Michigan seeks a bold Policy Director to lead our policy team and advance a people-centered climate justice agenda. You’ll coach staff, shape legislative priorities, and align frontline communities with the coalition’s advocacy during sessions in Lansing and beyond.

You’ll break down complex bills, build relationships with lawmakers, guide research and communications, set budgets, and ensure rigorous evaluation of campaigns.

Qualifications

• 5–8 years of supervisory experience and campaign management
• Proven success leading policy research and advocacy campaigns
• Strong understanding of Environmental Justice and EJ Principles
• Experience with environmental/climate coalitions preferred
• Ability to communicate with diverse communities and travel as required

Responsibilities

• Lead MEJC’s policy staff and fellows through regular coaching and evaluation
• Set policy positions and legislative priorities in partnership with organizing team and frontline communities
• Analyze proposed legislation and translate it into accessible information for the public
• Build relationships with legislators and staff and train others in lobbying and advocacy
• Develop budgets, track spending, and manage data for campaign evaluation and grants
