The mission of the Department of Corrections is to be a public safety resource for Arkansas families by providing professional management solutions and evidence-based rehabilitative initiatives for offenders.

All DOC positions are designated as Safety Sensitive Positions and are subject to random drug testing pursuant to the Secretarial Directive governing Personnel Drug Testing. Medical marijuana usage, as defined in Amendment 93 of the Arkansas Constitution, prohibits Personnel in a Safety-Sensitive Position from the use of medical marijuana even if they are qualifying patient under the amendment and/or hold a registry identification card. Department Personnel are prohibited from the use or possession of a medicinal marijuana card pursuant to this policy and state law.

Job Summary

The Policy Coordinator plays a pivotal role in shaping and managing an agency’s or organization’s policy initiatives. This classification involves researching, analyzing, and developing policy recommendations that align with the agency’s or organization’s mission and objectives. The Policy Coordinator collaborates with government agencies, advocacy groups, and internal teams in an attempt to monitor legislative and regulatory trends, craft strategic responses, and support effective advocacy efforts. This role is essential for ensuring that the agency or organization remains proactive and informed regarding public policy developments that may impact its operations and goals.

Primary Responsibilities

Conduct thorough research on legislative, regulatory, and policy developments at state or federal levels.Analyze the potential impact of proposed or existing policies on the agency.Draft policy briefs, position papers, reports, and memos to articulate recommendations and inform decision-makers.Collaborate with subject matter experts and internal teams to develop well-supported policy proposals.Liaise with government officials, advocacy groups, and a variety of assorted personnel to gather input on policy issues.Support advocacy initiatives by organizing meetings, briefing sessions, and public forums, ensuring alignment with strategic policy objectives.Monitor legislative activities and regulatory changes to identify emerging trends and issues.Provide regular updates and strategic insights to senior leadership regarding the potential implications of policy developments.Organize and coordinate policy meetings, workshops, and committee sessions, ensuring thorough documentation of discussions and action items.Manage project timelines, follow-ups, and communications to ensure effective implementation of policy initiatives.

Knowledge and Skills

Ability to collect, interpret, and synthesize complex data from various sources and produce clear, actionable insights.Excellent written and verbal communication skills for drafting documents, presenting policy options, and engaging with a variety of assorted personnel.Strong project management and time management abilities to juggle multiple initiatives and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.The capacity to evaluate policies critically, discern key issues, and formulate strategic recommendations.Aptitude in building collaborative relationships and working effectively with both internal teams and external partners across different sectors.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.

Experience in a policy or advocacy role within governmental, non-profit, or corporate settings may be required.

Licensure/Certifications
