Job description

Atlas Public Policy seeks a Policy Associate II to support research and products on topics important to Atlas’s mission, including building decarbonization, water policy, clean manufacturing, electric transportation, and other areas of climate policy.

This position is based in Washington, DC. Staff in DC follow a hybrid work model of three days per week in the office.

The Work
  • Lead and manage components of Atlas products, including data collection, validation workflows, and ongoing updates to dashboards and trackers for Buildings Hub and the Water Program Portal.
  • Conduct research and analysis on climate and energy policy topics, including building decarbonization, water policy, clean manufacturing, and electric transportation, producing insights that inform Atlas products, reports, and client work.
  • Own or contribute to written content and outputs, including fact sheets, data stories, and short analyses, translating complex policy and data into clear, accessible insights for external audiences.
  • Support communications strategy and execution across Atlas products, including:
  • Drafting and publishing newsletters, digests, and blog content
  • Managing and improving Mailchimp campaigns and subscriber experiences
  • Supporting WordPress updates and content publication
  • Developing and posting social media content (LinkedIn and YouTube)
  • Contribute to multimedia content development, including supporting the production and promotion of Atlas Live and other video or audio content.
  • Coordinate across teams to deliver high-quality products, working closely with policy and engineering staff to ensure alignment between data, analysis, and storytelling.
  • Manage project workflows and support client engagements, including tracking deliverables, preparing materials for meetings, and contributing to client-facing presentations and briefings.
  • Support business development activities, including conducting background research, drafting concept materials, and helping track opportunities and partnerships.
  • Identify opportunities to improve Atlas products and processes, proactively contributing ideas that enhance data quality, user experience, communications, and overall impact.
Desired Qualifications
  • An undergraduate degree in a quantitative, analytical, or policy-related field such as public policy, economics, environmental science, engineering, data science, or a related discipline; or relevant equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience in a role involving policy analysis, research, data management, or program coordination; a master’s degree in a related field may substitute for experience
  • Comfort working with structured datasets (e.g., Excel, CSVs, or database exports)
  • Ability to clean, validate, and organize data for analysis and reporting
  • Ability to interpret data and translate findings into clear written insights
  • Proficiency in Excel (required), including working with large datasets; experience with additional tools such as Power BI, Python, R, SQL, or other data analysis/visualization tools is a plus
  • Familiarity with managing information and workflows in platforms such as SharePoint or similar systems
  • Excellent writing, editing, and research skills, with the ability to synthesize complex policy and technical information for a range of audiences
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly in managing datasets, tracking tasks, and coordinating across multiple projects
  • Ability to think critically, identify patterns in data and policy developments, and solve problems independently
  • Strong interest in climate and energy policy, including topics such as building decarbonization, water infrastructure, clean manufacturing, or transportation electrification
  • Ambitious and self-directed, with the ability to take ownership of work while knowing when to seek input and collaborate
  • Interest in working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and contributing to the growth of Atlas’s products and impact

Compensation
  • Annual salary of $70,000-$85,000
  • Additional expected 10% of salary contributed to a pre-tax retirement account
  • Annual profit-sharing bonus between estimated 5% and 25%, based on employee and company performance
  • Fully covered platinum health insurance plan, along with dental and vision insurance for employee and children
  • 15 days of vacation plus company-wide holiday between Christmas and New Year’s Eve
  • 12 weeks paid parental leave
