SEEKING VOLUNTEER GRANT WRITERS
The Volunteer in this position must commit to one year of service. Additionally, you must enroll in our 14-week Citizen's Academy Class before starting the Volunteer program. (Classes are held quarterly. If interested, submit your name to makins@miramarpd.org). This Volunteer position reports to the designated supervisory personnel within the Police Department and performs routine to moderately complex administrative and clerical work to support efficient office operations. Volunteers perform various duties, excluding actual Police work, such as: administrative duties, computer skills (Microsoft applications), data entry, filing, typing, cataloging, copying, and telephone answering. Volunteers do not replace law enforcement or civilian personnel but assist staff to help them focus on more pressing tasks. Your support will help the department serve the citizens of Miramar more effectively.
Volunteers have the opportunity to give back to their community, gain insights into our City's law enforcement system, and contribute ideas for program improvements.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCERequires a high school diploma or GED, supplemented by experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must be able to type accurately.
The Volunteer applicant must be:
- 18 years or older
- A U.S. Citizen
- Able to contribute some free time
- Have a clear background
- Genuinely desire to serve the community
Before volunteering, a background check is required. The scope of the investigation depends on the duties involved. You will be informed of the process upon contact.

Performs related duties as required.
REQUIREMENTSThe following conditions may disqualify applicants, subject to background investigation:
- Recent marijuana use (past two years)
- Sale, production, or transport of marijuana
- Use of dangerous drugs (past five years)
- Sale, production, or transport of dangerous drugs
- Use or sale of narcotics (past five years)
- Prescription drug abuse (past three years)
- Multiple moving violations or poor driving record
- Criminal traffic violations (e.g., DUI)
- Felony or sexual offense convictions
- Domestic violence or violent crimes
- Recent misdemeanor convictions
- Gang affiliation in the past three years
