Job summary

LSU Health Shreveport is hiring a Police Sergeant to patrol and supervise officers in the LSUHS Police Department. The role acts as shift supervisor, coordinates training programs, and responds to major incidents to ensure officer safety and public security on campus.

The ideal candidate will have three years of law enforcement experience, a valid Louisiana driver’s license, and may require POST certification.

Responsibilities

• Enforce laws, investigate crimes and accidents, provide emergency services, crime prevention, and security for LSUHS.
• Determine work assignments, approve or disapprove work, and train fellow officers; supervise Communication Officers and Guards when the Lieutenant is absent.

The Police Sergeant position is a responsible armed police position in which the incumbent serves as a uniformed or plain clothes member of the LSUHS Police Department assigned to uniform patrol. The Police Sergeant is the assistant shift supervisor for a shift in this large University Police Department. Responds to all major incidents to supervise or assist officers for officer safety. Serves as shift supervisor in the supervisor’s absence. Designated as the primary shift training officer by planning and coordinating training programs. Regular attendance is required to perform these functions. Incumbent will maintain a customeroriented awareness in acknowledging and responding to needs as they occur to assure that customer satisfaction is met at all times.

Three years of law enforcement experience.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience. The maximum substitution allowed is 60 semester hours which substitutes for two years of experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.

Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification may be required.

An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Job Duties:

• The Police Sergeant shall serve as acting shift supervisor in the absence of a Police Lieutenant and will provide direction to Police Officer 1/2/3’s, Communication Officer
  1/2/3’s, and Guards on the shift.
• Services will include emphasis on uniform patrol, enforcement of laws, investigation of crimes and accidents, providing emergency services, crime prevention, and security services for LSUHS.
• The Police Sergeant will determine work assignments, approve or disapprove work, and train fellow officers and supervise Communication Officers 1/2/3’s and all Guards in the absence of the Police Lieutenant, shift supervisor.

• Obtains, maintains, and complies with Program Guidelines for National Crime Information Center (NCIC), Omnixx Force, and Louisiana Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (LLETS).
• Conducts roll call and officer, vehicle, and equipment inspections.
• Serves as Evidence Custodian which includes ensuring proper storage, transporting to Crime Lab, timely analysis and disposal of evidence.
• Other duties designated by Director of Public Safety.
